Psychology Degree Affiliation: Career and Interest Self-assessment Results Onthe RIASEC spectrum and according to the inventory, my interests fall on the Social or helpers area. The suggested careers to match my interests include nursing, working as a social worker, being a psychologist, physical therapists or in the education field especially as a special education teacher or an early education teacher. I have never considered myself to be “qualified” to become a special education or early education teacher let alone a physical therapist.

I always consider these careers demanding humane and personal dedication and involvement I never thought I have inside until I undertook the self-assessment test. In as much as the results are a shock, they are deeply and shockingly gratifying on the inside and I am now sure that I can be able to really help those in need in the above mentioned careers.2. What Can I Do with A Degree in Psychology?According to (http://www.bls.gov/oco/), there are many opportunities for people with degrees in psychology.

One of these opportunities is to become a researcher on contemporary psychological issues affecting the society. Other than that, one can work in various areas which require psychologists like schools, hospitals, military, and industries among other areas. This will however require specialization in a specific field of psychology as explained by (Kuther and Morgan, 2009). These specialized fields include counseling psychology, industrial or organizational psychologists, child psychology, clinical psychology, sport psychology or even forensic psychology among other sub-fields of psychology.

One can also become a psychology professor and pass the psychological knowledge to other upcoming psychologists. Working in a rehabilitation center is also part of the psychological career people with psychological degrees can venture into. 3. Do I Have to Go to Grad School and What Should My Undergraduate Degree Plan Be?The top three psychological careers I am most interested in and which also happen to match my interests according to the self-assessment results are to become a psychologist professor, work in a rehabilitation field (rehabilitation center with children with special needs) and also work as a clinical or counseling psychologist in a hospital setting.

American Psychological Association website provides the basic requirements to qualify in such psychological fields. In for example a rehabilitation psychologist, the minimum requirement is to have a degree in psychology and a master’s degree is also preferred though not mandatory (http://www.apa.org). For those wishing however to become just lecturers in colleges, a master’s degree in psychology is the minimum qualification.

Lastly, in order to become qualified to work in the hospital setting, a minimum of a degree is required (one will however be under supervision from another highly qualified psychologist). For those wishing to be in-charge, a doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology is the requirement. 4. Need to Know MoreThe most interesting information I gathered from my search of psychological careers is that basically all careers in psychology demand a minimum educational requirement of a Bachelor’s degree which is not so in other careers and especially those that fall in my interests as stipulated by the self-assessment inventory results.

I also gathered that there are not very many psychologists in the rehabilitation area who have PhDs as the minimum requirement is just Bachelor’s degree.
