Cultural Exercise The term attribution falls in the field of social psychology, which is used to explain and illustrate reasons why certain behaviors and events occur. Attribution theory explains many models used to explain the process involved in the methods. In this essay, two articles; Culture and Causal Cognition and Situational Salience and Cultural Differences in the Correspondence Bias and Actor –Observer Bias are used to describe how different cultural context might play a role in attribution.

Culture and Causal Cognition by Ara Norenzayan and Richard NisbettNorenzayan and nisbett talk about East Asians community and American by describing the differences existing in terms of understanding behavior. For example, East Asians individuals comprehend behavior in the aspect of complex interactions amid dispositions of an individual or object. Conversely, Americans understand the term behavior as the direct unfolding of dispositions. The western world focuses on the object and judging it according to its attributes and performance (Norenzayan and Nisbett, 2012).

The westerners believe that the objects characteristic and strengths determine the behavior of the object. The Asian mentality believes that the environment and surrounding of the object will determine how the object will behave. For example, the surroundings such as climate, vegetation, developments and resources are a number of factors that will affect an objects behavior (Norenzayan and Nisbett, 2012). The East Asian mentality is focused in the type of the field where the object is located and ascribes causality to the association amid object and the field.

Situational Salience and Cultural Differences in the Correspondence Bias and Actor-Observe Bias by Incheol ChoiChoi examines the attitude attributions of two regions that have different cultural background; they are the Americans and Koreans. Examples of cultural context discussed in this article include mass-murder incidents, and sports events. The cultural practice like mass-murder explains the attributions of the objects; hence, plays a role in the attribution. In order to understand certain attributions of a community, it is necessary to find out the reasons that lead to such an event to occur (Choi and Nisbett, 2012).

It is easy to understand the whole scenario and hence; one can formulate a workable solution. The article explains 2 studies conducted to find content that describes how cultural might play a role in attribution, in which the first study focused on the classic attitude attribution paradigm of Jones and Harris (Choi and Nisbett, 2012).
