Industrial Organizational Theory and Development Change Management Consider your performance in either this your academiccareer as a whole, or your current job. What factors (briefly provide 2 or 3) have inhibited your performance? One factor that has inhibited my success and growth in college is poor time management. Sometimes I feel that I have a lot of time to relax only to realize later that the workload was too much to complete within the time I have. Yet another factor that has negatively impacted my work is improper prioritization of work.
In some cases, I work without considering which job is needed earlier that the others. Although I work hard, I realize that I am in a mess when the least urgent job is done while the most urgent has not been started and the deadline is at hand. 2. Choose one of the factors above and briefly describe what you could do to change. In order to deal with the problem of poor time management, I need to create a timetable and abide by it to the extents possible. With a timetable in place, I will be able to schedule my work properly and avoid last minute pressures. 3. What factors discussed in the lesson as inhibiting change reflect factors that might make implementing this change strategy difficult?
My habit of working without strictly adhering to time schedules is a factor that may make the suggested change difficult. My current habit is comfortable and well established. It needs a lot of effort to change. Also my friends will probably find my change strategy difficult to accept considering that we spend a lot of time doing the same things. They would resist my desire to change. 4. What recommendations from the lesson could you apply to your change strategy to help ensure the change you proposed is successful?
In order to ensure change, I will have to come up with realistic and measurable goals. I will also engage in personal encouragement to try and overcome change related fears. I will monitor my progress and make necessary adjustments with time. 5. Imagine the CEO of your organization meets you in the elevator, and says, “We’re trying so hard to change the culture and image of the organization, but change is hard.” You are up for promotion and want to impress the CEO with what you have learned about the research of organizational change.
You only have a few minutes to impress him with your knowledge and general recommendations. What do you say?Change is perceived by many people as a threat to them or their interest, the reason for their resistance to it. Several measures need to be taken to ensure that change is positively accepted. Employees may need toe be trained on the reasons for or advantages of the change. Also, they should be encouraged to participate in decision making and in instituting the change. In addition, the employees fears in regard to the proposed change and its effects should be adequately addressed.
Proper communication amongst stakeholders should be done and the change properly planned and executed accompanied by rewards as recommended by Katz and Kahn (1978).ReferencesKatz, D. & Kahn, R.L. (1978). The social psychology of organizations. New York: Wiley.
