I have come to really appreciate and conceptualize the subject for what it is and the reasons that it covers such broad areas. I learned that many perspectives must be taken into account when looking at psychology and that many professional areas are the subject of psychology. I also learned that both scientific and empirical data are quite different from qualitative research methods but that both have equal merit depending upon the nature of the study.

I also have come to understand the different areas which call for each type of research technique. I truly believe that understanding psychology will benefit me both personally and professionally as it is relevant to all aspects of the human experience. Understanding the behavior and actions of others automatically affects how I react and how I feel about others, while also helping me to understand my own traits and behaviors. Professionally I believe this is very helpful as I think it will improve my skills in communication. Specifically, in listening to my colleagues and responding in appropriate and effective ways which will improve my working relationships.

The most meaningful experiences I have had while being a student of this course were getting to know my classmates and learning about a new subject matter. I have enjoyed the interaction and variety of interactive methods in this course. I found it helpful to know that my classmates were having similar difficulties and that their thoughts were available to me through forums and posts. I have also gained a lot from learning a new branch of knowledge which to me is invaluable and gives me a great sense of personal achievement and pride.

I think that using psychology in the most fundamental ways is the best way to use my acquired knowledge. It is an everyday subject that can be applied to all situations and I think that by putting the theories and knowledge I have gained into real practice where appropriate, I will learn to do this automatically over time which will help me both personally and professionally.
