EBS is an example of electrotherapy. It is a method used in neurobiology to stimulate the brain’s neural network by directly or indirectly stimulating its cell membrane using electric current. EBS occurs by stimulating neurons in the brain using a current of 10 μA. The neutrons around the electrode tips may not be considered for selection. The neutrons will, therefore, be determined if they are dendrites or axons. Activation of dendrites and axons increases with increasing current thus increasing the neutron stimulation. This procedure is through direct synaptic activation (Wilson, 2012).

The EBS occurs in the brain. This method is widely used to treat psychiatric disorders and conditions like depression and Parkinson’s diseases and symptoms that show obsessive and compulsive illness. Stimulating the brain through this method improves one's spatial memory and navigational ability. This method may also be used to boost memory in patients diagnosed with early Alzheimer's disease and can also enhance a person’s math ability. As research continues providing promising results, non-pharmacological brain treatments will be preferable besides pharmacotherapy, providing an alternative to patients who do not get results from drugs (Wilson, 2012).
