Americans adopt over 20000 children from outside the country; however, some of them maybe unable to adjust but this depend on the environment the adoptees go to after adoption (Mohanty & Newhill 389). What is most prominent in determining how these kids turn out is the home environment. As these children lack the opportunity to have a home, the foster parents should give them a setting as comfortable as home. Love, understanding and patience are the qualities that these adoptees need. These needs are short in many foster homes. Many foster parents think the opportunity of these children to have a family is enough. This makes many of them grow insensitive to the emotional attachment these adoptees need to the parental figures. Interracial adoption requires considerable care when handling the adoptees. At some point, the adoptee will know about the adoption as they are totally from their parents. The skin color will make the adoptee raise questions soonest he becomes racial sensitive. Questions why he does not like his parents will arise. In America though most of these international adoptees have not had problems, in Europe they have a hard time. This is mostly because America has affiliates of many races. Efforts to establish a relationship between ethnicity and adoptees adjustment are inconclusive (Yoon 74). Yoon studied 241 Korean born adoptees. Results were not specific as some had a high self-esteem and others esteem was low. After tracing these adoptees, back to their homes, the upbringing and parents efforts determined the esteem of these adoptees. In a future research, the author recommends that research should try to establish if ethnicity has anything to do with the way the adoptees adjust. Culture shock from exposure to the new environment very different from home also can affect how fast some will fit in. Investigations into whether the adoptees are comfortable at residence as it can affect how they adjust. Retrieving this data enabled the author to compare all research done as far as adoption goes and determine what issues need further research. A further research developed from this author would be easy as questions that other researchers have not answered are identifiable. It is not time consuming, and with technology, data needed by the author from the internet is accessible. Unlike other researches, this is more conclusive as it compiles many researches that were trying to discuss the subject of international adoption. Intentions of the author were to make this report a reference point for further research (Mohanty & Newhill 386). Bases for developing an easier way for further research are by giving ideas of what needs answers. This is possible if former researches are investigated, to determine solutions not found. Next researcher can have a starting point. Trade-offs in this method While this method is suitable, research lacks support of the credibility of the compiled report. The author relied on information given in these books and researches but does not have evidence if research happened. This reduces dependability of his work by another researcher. In addition, the work lacks first hand information (Yoon 89). Adoptees questioned the researcher could not meet them and assess their real feelings. As people have varying opinions, this researcher might also have had a different opinion on the esteem and other issues affecting these adoptees. This weakens the bases of research. Conclusion of the study The study emphasizes the need of a system where foster parents and adoptees understand each other. International adoption provides a chance for a forever family. Parents complete their families, and the adoptees get a family. In addition to all this, expectations of both the child and parents need addressing. In case, it involves the adoptee introduction to a different ethnic and culture, he needs mental preparation (Mohanty & Newhill 392). Culture shock may make the adoptee withdraw from the foster parent social life, and this always results in identity crises. Social workers responsible to these children should not rest after adoption. Social workers should ensure comfort of these adoptees. Results in general Summing up these results to one conclusive answer is not possible. This is mainly because even the findings in the subsequent researches used, were also not conclusive. Some researchers like (Yoon 83) concluded their research by saying that the findings from their research were inconclusive. This is the reason that at the end of the research the author raises more questions. This research only proves the need for extra study. However, the research does show the need for adoptees and guardians to develop a close relationship. Psychologically this will boost the self-esteem of these adolescents. Relationship of the article to working with disabled people Like these adoptees, disabled people feel rejected by the society. This is because most lack some basic organs they need unlike most of the people around them. They need understanding. Like the adoptees, they have low self-esteem. Appealing to their psychology to boost their self-esteem is required. To prove that disabled can lead healthy lives to them will need much encouragement. With a high self-esteem, disabled people have accepted their disability and have gone on to lead happy lives (Mohanty & Newhill 394). The society acts as the foster parents to these disables.
