JOURNAL REVIEW The trouble with Alien Wuornos Feminism’s “First Serial Killer by Kyra Pearson In the book ‘The trouble with Aileen Wuornos’ Kyra Pearson tries to unfold the story of Aileen Wuornos a lesbian and prostitute who was declared as the first American serial killer by the FBI. Between 1989 and 1990 she was accused of killing six men who she had picked on the highway and led to the woods. After being arrested, she openly testified that she was actually guilty of killing them however it was due to the fact that they had raped or tried to rape her. Since then she has been the focus of media coverage, movies, books, story tales and documentaries that try to expand the understanding of female violence and victimization. The main goal of the author is to try and make readers look at violence and victimization women subject men to from different perspectives. He tries to archive this by giving examples of various authors’ opinions, bibliographies, and personal opinion. He argues that other than prejudicing that the main cause of women’s violent nature is familial people should also consider looking at different point of view first before coming into conclusion. Nevertheless this view can be considered as controversial since a crime is a crime and should be treated with the same weight irrespective of once gender. The article is an incredibly interesting piece of art because the author has perfectly related the story to his main theme as results calculating its relevance. Prison Masculinities by The book prison masculinity talks about all kinds ills that perpetrated against people of different masculinity in prison. From time immemorial, prisons have encouraged Hegemonic masculinity that not only cultivate in equality, but also allow superior males to extend their authority and control towards lesser males. He continues to argue that this might be because of hasher conditions that have been set in these facilities that create more criminals other than correcting them. The author in addition unfolds stories of different convicts and ex- convicts with different level of criminal record and has experienced these ills at first hand. Social ill that are normally perpetrated in prison include rape, violence and racism and most usually go unreported . The authors’ main goal in the book is to try and bring out social ills that are being perpetrated against men in prison and usually go unheard. This is in contrary to feminist and other authors who have for long tried to avoid this topic. The main themes that the author tries to discuss include sexism, homophobia, and men violence against other men among others. They archived this by giving various examples of people who have experienced these issues at first hand while still in prison. This book is very inspiring; however, some sections can be critic. For instance, when the authors state that setting harsher condition in prison might create more criminals, they are trying to insinuate that correctional facilities should set relatively fair conditions that might also ultimately accelerate criminal activity. The commentary e considered as important because it touches on issues of masculinity in prison that long been avoided but is quite essential. Women of color veterans on war, militarism, and feminism The article Women of color veterans of a war, militarism, and feminism tries to look at women from different nationality in the United States that over represented in the military but usually faces different forms of discrimination. The first chapter in the article tries to bring about dialogue between feminist and women of color veterans who have an intimate knowledge of military as a means that e used to bring about understanding and acceptance of women of color. The authors try to prove this by conducting an in-depth interview with women of color who had joined military and had in some instances experience discrimination. Other questions important question that were asked include reason for joining military and what they is their current view on the state of the military. The author’s main aspiration in the book is to try to unfold the discrimination that feminine with color and the feminine gender as a whole usually face in the military. He stresses that for there to be success in military there must be peace within because one cannot fight war with war and call it peace. The author’s argument is indisputable because he touches on very critical issues that can determine either success or failure during military operation. The article is also an incredible piece of art because the authors uses various themes and styles but manages to bring out the main idea. This article is important because it reveals what women really face in the military due to their gender and further challenges relevant authorities to try and do something about it. Living in a militarized culture: War, Games and the Experience of the U.S. Empire In the past few decades, the battles the United States military have taken part in been applied in various entertainment Medias and most people have found them as quite entertaining. This considered as beneficial and interactive because it encourages the united State citizens to appreciate the role of the military as a result assist the government in making it stronger. The essay living in a militarized culture tries to explore the role of video games that later developed to better the experience. They are considered as remediated version of the Hollywood films and a space where citizens can experience this violence first hand, go back to history and become immersed into the military culture. The main goal of the author in this essay is to try to show the relevance of video games to people whom they designed for. The author proves this by giving various example of how this game influences once perspective. For instance as one plays the video game he puts himself into the shoes of a soldier as result learning of the challenges they face. The authors argument can however be criticized because, it is not obvious that all those who play videogames about the military operation usually change the way they think. This is because some do it merely for entertainment and rarely concentrate while playing. In addition, it can also change someone perception negatively for example some people will think that battle is merely a child play. The article can be considered to be a good essay because it talks about an interesting topic that most people might consider as less important and tries to bring meaning out of it. The author further tells of how prostitution .usually conducted in most towns without the authorities’ that have been set in place noticing and persecuting them. People who are trying to fight against prostitution although they have not made any achievement due to the changing tactics that the prostitutes are currently applying (Anne 6).He also tells of how in history prostitution was associated with only women of color where black women were forced to have sex with whites who felt like anytime. This further went on and influences the white woman who started to trade their bodies in order for them to earn extra incomes. The main goal of the essay is to try to enlighten how prostitution and injustice has been associated from time immemorial. By recounting the history of prostitution in United States and further connecting to the story of the magistrate, the author evidently archives this ambition. However, despite the fact that the story is quite contentious, it is hard to censor it because it uses examples from real life experience. The author tries to propose that the government should ensure that they invent a committee that reviews any magistrate decision before any prostitute considered as guilty. The article is relevant because it outlines what is really happening in the society while giving relevant examples from real life. Telling masculine tales The article the masculine tales by Johnston Mathew unfolds how the author-suffered masculinity when he worked at the security department in a particular institution until he was forced to resign .He had only worked in the hospital for sixteen months and he had already experienced different kinds of humiliation that was already having a daunting impact on his ego. From this experience he draws a narrative that helped him and can also help others overcome their military like humiliation and archive hegemonic musicality. The article can as well assist researchers to straightforwardly explore and determine things that usually occur in institution but are professionally unethical. The author’s goal in the article is to try and transform unethical masculinity practices in institutions so as to improve each and every workers working experience. Using the two narratives, the author archives this because he even goes further to recommend the possible strategies that can be used to combat this vice. This makes the author’s article almost impossible to condemn since he tells it from personal experience. Further, the commentary is imperative given that it reveals and tries to correct a vice that has fr long been avoided though in is rampant in most institutions. From documentary to drama: capturing Aileen wurnos by Tanya horeck This essay looks at the dependence between Nick Broomfield’s documentary ‘Aileen life and death of serial killer’ Jenkin’s Patty independent film The Monster both which tries to unfold the story of Aileen Wornus a woman who has been termed as the first feminine serial killer. Debate among critics on whether a true life documentary or a fictional film is more effective has always been at the center stage. The book tries to show how the two are intertwined, with the interpretation of how both films contribute towards real life. This might be considered as the author’s goal and it is important because it reveals the relevance of both films and documentary that has been controversial for long. Rape and the Prison Code, in Prison Masculinities by Terry Kupers Is a book that documents the worst fears of prison systems that are about to fail. And on the other hand gives hope and ideas that can be used to change this. The author proposes that all the United States law makers should be locked somewhere and forced to acquire these ideas. The book also exposes how masculinity has been abused in prison from time immemorial, including how weaker fellows have been victimized. The main aim of the author is to try and adopt a culture in prisons that can help solve these ills. His ideas are almost impossible to condemn because the ideas are relevant and factual and already been proven. Moreover, it is important because it challenges the legislatures to look into the ills in prison and try to do something about it Remorseless Killers: Military Training & Grunts: From Soldier to Sociopath, from Undoing War, Remaking Men Chapter 4 by Kathleen Barry. In the essay Kathleen looks at the experience soldiers face due to lack of political compassion. By bringing out to light how men are trained to combat during wars. She reveals how the training usually drives them to kill without regret, only to end up suffering from trauma afterwards and as result losing their soul. She proves this by giving examples of soldiers who invaded and killed and alo shows how it affected them after. The authors main goal is to try and bring out these traumatizing events and propose new strategies that can help these men transform their lives after these battles. This is of outmost importance because it will enable those who have gone through this experience to transform for the better. A Million Jockers, Punks and Queens by Stephen Donny Donaldson This is a mind provoking article that contractively says that there no homosexuals and heterosexuals in prison as it is usually perceived. The author terms these men who penetrate others willingly or unwillingly and will not allow others to penetrate them as ‘jockers’, while those being penetrated he calls them ‘queens’ while those being gang raped he terms them as ‘punks’. He states that if you accept and pair with a man and becomes his queen, he will protect you from being gang raped. The author’s main goal is to try and give advice lesser masculine or new convicts in prison on ways that they can use to protect themselves from being gang raped. This is quite controversial for the reason that it is like the author is encouraging this vice to continue in prison while on the other hand others are trying to combat it. As result the book does not have much importance although it might help a new convict who is faced with the situation and have no any other option. Three Readings of G.I. Jane, in the International Journal of Feminist Politic by Gillian Young The essay talks about how the international security solely built on stories that have been told. Usually it only looks at the biggest threat and fails to consider minor once irrespective of the impact they might be having. For instance since women are considered as ‘beautiful souls” who needs protection and men as able warriors who can protect themselves, the challenges men face have been neglected for long. The authors main aim in the to try and change the status quo where people rarely acknowledge men’s rights in the international community and try to instill some form of sense.
