ID Lecturer Welcome to the Week 6 Discussion area Groupthink is a faulty mechanism within any group’sactivity. This is manifested by the ways and means through which a group showcases unity in thought yet fails to fulfill the actual purpose. It highlights the brainstorming session that this group brings to the fore, and which essentially forms the basis for the group’s thinking basis in the coming times. From my experience, we once had a groupthink session where 4 of us sat down together and decided on what course to undertake as far as realizing the potential of our work tasks was concerned (Eaton, 2001).
We thought and formed an opinion about what we needed to do in the future in order to bring success to our fore, which eventually turned the entirely opposite way once we did the hard work and dedicated our efforts to the basis of groupthink. The group was trying to reach a consensus as far as determining what the ideological basis of the work tasks was and how we as individuals would deal with the up and coming issues. The group leader was adamant that they were following the right path and the group members followed him to the hilt which was something that was instrumental at coining a flawed opinion in the first place (Hallgren, 2010).
The outcome of the groupthink activity was that we were standing on opposite side of the pole that we wanted to be in entirety. We laughed because we had gone about committing some serious mistakes and in the process made decisions which were uncalled for and simply not desired on our part. We could have avoided being hasty in calling the shots and thought time and again as far as the corrective steps towards the decision was concerned. ReferencesEaton, J. (2001).
