The high rate of depression in women
The causes of high susceptibility to depression in women lie in premenstrual syndrome in women and in postpartum causes. These are some of the suggestions made in my analysis. PMS is caused by hormonal imbalances in women which lead to high rates of depression.
After a woman has had a baby, she often goes through a period of stress called postpartum depression or baby blues due to the new environment. The hormones, the physical changes and the added family member to take care of are the major contributors. Support from the family members, as well as the physician, is needed to treat the depression.
Depression in young girls is higher than that in boys due to hormonal imbalances and body image plus low self-esteem. This is in line with my research other than the last factor. Self-esteem is associated with the view parents have toward young girls, and how they encourage and shape them. An interview can be used to collect data on this factor.
