XXXXXXX Number: XXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXX XXXXXXX XX – XX – Stimulate Speech Speech Speaker Notes: Hard Work is a term we all use every day. Thomas Jefferson explains, “Im a great believer in luck and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it” (Finest Quotes). Good Morning/ Afternoon, my name is XXXXXX and I will be speaking about one of the most important aspect of life Hard Work. According to me hard work refers to the things that challenge us, things that put up a major challenge and are not easy to achieve. I feel hard work is essential as it helps the individual get through the hard times in life more effectively. Also, it allows the individuals to be more motivated. I will be discussing these in detail further. One of the major mistakes that a number of us make is to try and choose the easy way of doing things in a way to avoid hard work. This is not the right attitude and the exact opposite needs to be done to be successful in life. In life the best is for the ones who are willing to work to attain the best. An excellent example of this is the African Gold mines. These mines are quite deep and often range up to two miles deep. People who are willing to invest and put in hard work to construct the mines turn out to be winners in the end. There are a number of challenges that the person might face in the construction of the Gold Mines, however, these mines are so lucrative that in the end, only the people who put in the hard work and commitment will see the fruits. Quoting the words of Oprah Winfrey, “The big secret in life is that there is no big secret. Whatever your goal, you can get there if you’re willing to work”. This I believe is an excellent saying and is the perfect to express the importance of Hard Work. I believe that there are two main reasons why a person needs to work hard. Firstly, I believe, hard work is essential to be able to get through the hard and trying times. As very rightly said by Napoleon Hill, “Do not wait; the time will never be "just right. Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along” (Khurana). A person who focuses on what they have and what they can do with it prove to be more successful and in control of their lives than others who complain and don’t try to put in efforts to get a job done. An excellent example, although a fiction, is seen in the movie Iron Man. Tony Stake the hero of the movie, builds Iron Man from scrap and hard work to get out of the place of the enemy. Although I know this is a fiction, but it is a positive aspect to be learnt from the film. Hard Work always pays off and is very helpful in difficult times. The second main reason I believe hard work is essential is because it helps motivate people. As explained very well by Theodore I. Rubin, “Happiness does not come from doing easy work but from the afterglow of satisfaction that comes after the achievement of a difficult task that demanded our best” (Khurana, Quotes: Hard Work). When a person puts in their efforts and a heartfelt attempt at doing a job, the results tend to be positive and more satisfying and motivating than any other form of compensation or money. In conclusion, in the words of Steve Pavlina, “If you want to achieve some really big and interesting goals, you have to learn to fall in love with hard work. Hard work makes the difference. It’s what separates the children from the mature adults” (Pavlina). I realise the importance of hard work in my life and am now making conscious decisions to work hard in all aspects of my life, be it studies, work or even simple daily aspects of life. We get to live just once and I aim at making this meaningful. I aim at following the words of Doug Firebaugh, “Every day do something that will inch you closer to a better tomorrow” (Khurana, Quotes: Hard Work). Thank You! Speaking Plan Requirements: 1. Audience Analysis: Hard work is a topic people have been taught time and again since childhood. There is a high chance that the audiences will not be interested in the topic as this has been explained over and over again and there is a chance that the audiences may not be ready to listen to this again. In order to overcome this, I have included a number of sayings from various people and also have included references to a movie to grab the attention of the audiences. 2. Speaker Analysis: As the speaker here, I feel an internal obstacle is the lacking examples from my own life. The speech would prove to be more motivating and interesting if the speech and examples is from a person who has been able to achieve something in life and build a name for them. This I believe is a big weakness of the speech. 3. Attention-Getter: The attention getter for this speech is a combination of quotes from several well known people as well as the example of the fiction Iron Man. The main reason this is being used, is to highlight how hard work is given importance in fictions as well, and to bring out the importance of hard work in real life. 4. Common Ground: The common ground here is that hard work is not meant for one person in specific. This is a quality and trait that should be adopted by everyone to become successful and happy in life. Hard work is required in all aspects of life, be it studies, work, or even relationships. Hence this is a universal aspect of life and forms the common grounds for the discussion. 5. Credibility: To ensure complete credibility of the speech, I have included references from where I have taken information. Also I have included the names of people who I quote. I have ensured to use quotes of genuinely successful and hard working individuals which enable the speech to credible and valid. Similar to any research, it is essential to focus on credibility and validity of the speeches as well. 6. Thesis: There are two reasons why hard work is important: First reason, being hard working is important as it helps in getting through hard times of life. Secondly, hard work helps in motivating the individual to a great extent. 7. Main Points/Sub Points: I. The first thing to be discussed is the meaning of hard work. A. Quotes of experts + Thomas Jefferson’s Quote (Finest Quotes) B. Hard work is major challenges African Gold Mines Example (Pavlina) II. The second important point to be discussed here is the importance of hard work. In my personal opinion this includes, A. Hard work helps in hard and trying times + Napoleon Hill’s quote (Khurana, Quotes: Hard Work) Iron Man example B. Hard work motivates + Theodore I. Rubin’s Quote (Khurana, Quotes: Hard Work) 8. Memorable Statement: The final and most memorable statement I feel is the from the life coach Steve Pavline, “If you want to achieve some really big and interesting goals, you have to learn to fall in love with hard work. Hard work makes the difference. It’s what separates the children from the mature adults”. This I feel is very important in the case of the study as it provides a crystal clear explanation of need for hard work and also explains in simple terms what difference hard work can make in the lives of people. Hence this definitely would classify as the most memorable statement of the speech. Other memorable points will be the example of Iron Man. This will draw the attention of the audiences as well as will be easier to relate to as the character is a super hero and although fictitious a good lesson can be learnt from him.
