For instance, Fitzgerald and her associates (1988 as cited in Lenhart, 2004) discovered that women who are working in a university setting were more vulnerable to sexual victimization than are female students in the same organization. Gold (1987 as cited in Paludi, 1999) revealed that her research participants, which were blue-collar tradeswomen, suffered substantially higher extents of all types of sexual harassment, such as seductive conduct, gender harassment, sexual corruption, sexual intimidation, sexual stalking, than did either pink-collar secretarial women or white-collar professional women.
LaFontaine and Tredeau (1986 as cited in Ward, 1995) revealed comparable results in their sample population of 160 women participants, all college graduates working in male-dominated occupations, such as technological jobs (e.g. IT, engineering). Baker (1989 as cited in Paludi & Barickman, 1991) investigated a group of women working in either nontraditional or traditional job, where ‘traditionality’ was identified by the gender distribution in the occupational group. Baker (1989 as cited in Paludi & Barickman, 1991) revealed that considerable levels of sexual harassment are linked with having a few women in the occupational group.
