The mode of data collection is irrelevant to the design logic. Failure to differentiate between method and design elicits poor evaluation of a research design. Research designs usually equate to quantitative and qualitative methods of research. Researchers view experiments and social surveys as instances of quantitative research. Here, evaluations are against the weaknesses and strengths of statistical, quantitative methods of research and analysis. Scholar-practitioners can enforce social change via research, determining the approaches that induce workable testing hypotheses, assumptions and associations; with exploration of attitude, feelings and experiences.
A scholar-practitioner has to fully engage themselves in the process of research because it enriches their practice. It also results to pragmatic applications in a scholar-practitioner’s professional life. The drive for social change helps individuals to use their skills whenever the need comes up. Research teaches such practitioners to uphold creativity, think out of the box and find answers to questions in a curious way. All disciplines encourage positive social change through teaching learners to become successful drivers of change, by assuming the role of a scholar-practitioner. . As with every research work, the researcher chooses to work on something without realizing the results and scope of the research.
It is pertinent to choose a manageable topic, which is not large-scale or time-consuming (Grausten 262). The topic should not overlap with other assessments. Supervisor advice determines the feasibility of the study. Construction of a rough plan of the study objectives makes the dissertation much controllable. Pragmatism with time scales is paramount. It is important to allocate sufficient time in which to accomplish tasks. If the timetable does not appear clear, it is recommendable to reorganize or revise it accordingly.
Flexibility is pertinent in the preparation and writing of a dissertation. This work does not always progress smoothly, so one needs to continuously review goals and revise them properly. The supervisor is an important resource because they are available to assess the work progress, offer quality advice and lead towards the direction of the best and the most appropriate source materials (Grausten 258). Proper planning is important in dissertation writing. When completing the dissertation, it is pertinent to observe the supervisor’s guidelines such as formatting and referencing styles.
Dissertations are, thus, a simple task that requires focus, motivation and hard work.
