? Case Study Do You Believe the School and Ms. Romano Is Acting in Juan’s Best Interest? What Would You Change, If Anything, About Ms. Romano’s Approach? In accordance with the mentioned case study, it can be stated that the school and Ms. Romano was not acting in the best interest of Juan. In this regard, there are a number of reasons that need to be addressed in order to justify the aforesaid statement. Firstly, Juan can be viewed as an average second grade student; therefore for him it would not be easy to learn a foreign language. Secondly, Juan got feared and became demotivated due to the presence of the difficulties while learning a particular language which eventually made the scenario impossible for him to cope up with the learning procedures. Thirdly, a lack of initiatives can be apparently observed on behalf of Ms. Romano because Spanish is much dissimilar to the language of English concerning various significant aspects such as grammatical facets and other areas like pronoun, adjective and articles. In this similar concern, personal attention from the faculties was required for Juan. In the classroom, teachers undoubtedly encounter many errors which a foreign national commits. But Ms. Romano did not provide that much of attention to him regarding learning English as well as the leading the life of the Americans (Zadick, n.d.). Thus, on the basis of the above discussion, it can be affirmed that the school and Ms Romano are not actually acting in serving the best interests of Juan by a certain degree. Based on the above analysis, Ms. Romano definitely needs to change her attitude concerning the initiatives that she had taken to assist Juan in learning English. It can be viewed in the provided case that Ms. Romano decided to send Juan to the Special Education director with the intention of developing his learning abilities. But, an incidence of carelessness can be viewed from her side as she had been very busy since the last few weeks having no consultation with the parents of Juan about the aforesaid subject matter. It can be affirmed that she actually failed to find out the root of the problem. It is very desirable for Juan to learn English as he as well as his family is moving towards Georgia. Thus, the carelessness attitude or the approach of of Ms. Romano needs to be changed by a greater degree. What Would Be Your Preferred Personal Approach For Helping Children Learn English? As far as preferred personal approaches for helping children to learn English is concerned, the assessment of the individual students requires to be performed. In this regard, focusing on individual students can provide a greater degree of success on the evaluation of the students. Learning abilities of the students can often be viewed to be not quite similar, therefore each individual student need different kind of approaches and preparations in learning English. In this regard, the Response-to-Intervention (RTI) model can prove to be much effective in addressing individual student requirements and most vitally in enhancing the performances of the students who struggle with learning, especially foreign languages. In fact, there has been increasing evidence that RTI can offer efficient interventions for the learners of English language who has been struggling with reading English (Hagan, n.d.). Do You Believe That Juan Should Be Tested For Learning Disabilities? How Would You Respond To Mrs. Romano’s Proposal to Move Juan to a Special Education Class? What Kind Of Information Should Ms. Romano Have About Juan Before She Refers Him To The Special Education Director? Before answering the question whether Juan need to be tested for learning difficulties, there should lay complete disclosures of the most common sorts of learning disabilities that have been summarised below: Speech and language disabilities Writing difficulties Visual learning difficulties Memory and other thinking difficulties Inadequate social skills (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2013). According to the provided case, it can be stated that Juan might face certain learning abilities such as speech and language difficulties along with the difficulties in listening, talking and understanding. Ms Romano observed certain unusual behaviors of Juan such as fearful facial expressions and extreme worry among others while teaching. These behaviors eventually made Ms Romano to refer Juan to the Special Education director after a few weeks of unsuccessful lessons. By taking into concern the aforesaid aspects, it can be stated that Juan should be tested for learning disabilities on a primary basis. Sending Juan to a Special Education class could be a successful one which could result in developing his English skills. This Special Education class could develop his English skills by providing special attention to him concerning special English classes. Specially mentioning, in response, the proposal of Ms Romano towards moving Juan to a special education class can be supported as this might to learn English in an effectual manner. Ms. Romano actually noticed that Juan was facing huge difficulties while learning English. Moreover, she also observed that Juan as making fearful facial expressions and thus need to be enhancing his learning abilities by a greater level. After viewing the behaviors of Juan, Ms. Romano decided to send Juan to Special Education Director who could assess him individually and most vitally enhance its learning disability of English skills so that he does not have any sort of problem while moving to Georgia. What Should She Know About His Culture And Family? Ms. Romano had a few ideas about Juan’s culture and family. In order to enhance the learning disability of Juan, She should know that he was an average second grade student of a school of Peru. Moreover, she also should know that he belong to Spanish culture and ought to learn English while moving to Georgia in order to lead an American lifestyle. Why Is There An Overrepresentation Of Minority Children In Special Education Classes? The subject of overrepresentation of the minority students in special education programs can be duly considered as one of the biggest areas of concern especially for special education researchers. Although the aspect of overrepresentation of minority children in the U.S. special education classes or programs can be viewed to be quite complex, certain remedial measures need to be adopted as well as executed to address the situation effectively. It can be stated that the diverse governmental policies along with regulations can be regarded as one of the fundamental reasons for generating overrepresentation of minority children particularly in special education classes (International Reading Association, n.d.).
