When an individual is in this state, according to the Cognitive Dissonance, he would merely sulk in the pressure without looking for a medium to vent the steam. Q.2 Cognitive theory exposes the irrationality of individuals, in the experiment those who were paid $1 dollar said they enjoyed the boring tasks than those who were paid $20. This means that those individuals who were paid $1 experienced dissonance while those who were paid $20 did not experience the dissonance. The latter exposed the ideal that they sulked under the impression that they enjoyed the task yet, a contradictory in their self.
Self- perception theory explains that the individuals had secondary thoughts about the tasks and that this was the real attitudes from observing their own behavior, an. They were not sure how they really felt with regard to the boring tasks, if they had to look to their subsequent behavior for the answer. Individuals who were given $20 likely informed the confederate that the task was enjoyable because they were given a lot of money, than those who got $1. This theory does not assume that they must have enjoyed the task because otherwise they would not have said they did the task. Q.3 Group polarization is the tendencies for groups to make more thrilling decisions than the original disposition of its members are.
Informational influence theory explain group polarization by suggesting that individuals become more convinced of their views and perception when they get to hear original arguments that are in support of the their position from the group. An individual who joins a group would typically favor the side that is rich with high amount of information, but still posses his own personal opinion. Normative theory explains group polarization by suggesting that group polarization occurs due to an individual’s wish to be considered in positive light amongst the members of a group.
The theory asserts that an individual will evaluate his own ideas and thoughts against that of the group before joining it, although his ideas and thoughts would be a little to the extreme. Q.4 In order to convince the audience/students of the need to increase the duration of class time, I would employ ethos, pathos to illustrate my arguments; this is in a bid to overcome cognitive misers. Moreover, while explaining I would use personal experience in order to demystify the subject and to create a personal connection with the students, as this would play huge role in minimizing opponents to my point of view and ideals of an extended class hour time and the failures they might endure if they fail to agree to the extension.
Furthermore, considering that I am ill prepared for the speech my delivery tone should not be authoritative rather persuasive, and would ensure that communication and gestures are in harmony, clear and direct in a bid to enthuse audience emotional connection to the subject. Finally, I would employ humor in the speech at least to break the anxiousness and overbearing influence I might be held by the student to be able to turn the even to more of a social interactive scenario other than a lecture.
