Vocational Recommendation First Introduction Francis is a recent graduate from Missouri University. He graduated with first class honors in mathematics meaning he is a smart student. However, after he graduated, it was very difficult for him to land a job in the corporate world despite the numerous applications he made and interviews he attended. After being unemployed for over a year, Francis opted to earn a living from doing casual jobs at a fertilizer manufacturing company near his home. He was slowly adjusting to these casual jobs where he was underpaid until one day a tragic explosion at the factory left him deaf.

After the accident, Franci’s life hit a snarl as he immediately lost his job. This was very devastating for the 27year old with a lot of expectations for the future. He suffered a depression and was not able to function until his family intervened and decided to take Francis for a vocational rehabilitation Vocational rehabilitation is a dynamic process which consists of activities that follow a specific logical. Sequential progression of services related to the individual needs with a particular disability.

Vocational assessment helps identify and appraise a person’s level of functioning. According to vocational counselors, work is considered to being therapeutic and important for both physiological and psychological wellbeing. They have advocated for work as a human right for people with disabilities. The main objective of vocational rehabilitation is to help people with certain limitations gain or regain their sense of independence through employment or any form of activity that will reintegrate them into society.

The ultimate goal of vocational programs is preventing potential disability, returning workers like Francis with disabilities into gainful employment, introduce workers with disability into the labor force and ensuring they stay employed. This is a process that entails working with the client to understand potential barriers to facilitate effective use of environmental resources and make them able to adapt to such environments as well as providing recommendations to make adjustments to accommodate the needs of the client for career, personal, social and community adjustment following a disability (Lee, 2013). .Francis was taken through a variety of tests to determine his intelligence, aptitude, inventory skill and ability to succeed in a career so that they could assess what he is most suitable for in terms of career.

Aptitude tests were conducted to determine his ability to acquire a skill. These tests showed that Francis had good numeracy and technology skills however, he was found to have poor communication skills. The other test was a career test carried out to determine which job match Francis’s personality. The personality test taken by Francis showed he was shy and that affected how he expressed himself. From the intelligence test, he was smart. His mental skills were good. From the evaluations, Franci’s functional abilities are; good computer skills, from his inventory assessments, Francis would function well in an environment that requires attention since he is very attentive to details.

However, limitations that Francis has are that he passes out as a shy person and his communication skills are poor meaning he cannot function well in a team. From the results above, there was really not clear result as to what career is suitable for Francis. From these results, the most vocational goal for Francis would be the use of transferable skills Analysis to evaluate the specific skills he is suited for. TSA would be the most applicable to Francis’ scenario since it is applied to individuals who have an injury in which the skills they had before the injury are compared to the skills they have after injury and a suitable placement is determined.

This process is mostly used in instances where the person has skills that can be transferred to another position resulting in a quicker job placement and regain of self sufficiency. The test data used for this evaluation would be to measure if Francis possesses the necessary skills to pursue further education and what type of employment is suitable for him. The other data for this test is if the job he is suitable for needs further training then is training a reasonable goal for the particular patient.

From the tests, Francis is a very shy person and has poor communication skills as a result; he is not able to serve his tutoring career. This interferes with how he relays information. And now that he has a hearing impairment, he can definitely not be able to teach in a normal classroom. However his skills in IT can be improved with further training to get him a specific placement as a programmer since he has very good numeracy skills and this is a job that does not require him to communicate verbally (Lee, 2013).
