Critical Thinking Exercise - Manufacturing Beauty Critical analysis of the website about Cindy Jackson’s sense of her social self, her self-concept, her self-esteem and her self-presentation Cindy’s website with a headline of “CINDY JACKSON, Global Plastic Surgery & Anti-Ageing Expert,” reveals the whole concept of her as a person. Cindy’s social self revolves around assisting others achieve lasting beauties results. She seems obsessed (if not too harsh to use the word) with remaining young and looking beautiful. This is evident on the website by analysis of her expenditure. Her beauty shop entails image and cosmetic surgery secrets, instant result lotions, living doll, microdermabrasion expenditure. Obsession with attractiveness or just getting perfect look is Jackson’s sense of social self. It beats logic to undergo over 50 operations to try to get the perfect face or figure. She spent fortune to get the perfect face and figure. Her social sense is full with perpetual examination of her feelings, attitudes and opinions. In addition, misjudging public opinions or expectations makes one acts differently in a given situations. Self-concept refers to perceptions and set of beliefs about oneself. It assists in determining how a person reacts or behaves in different situations. It is discovered that inconsistency between self- concept and experiences induces threat and anxiety. Cindy’s self-concept as depicted in the website reveals a sense of anxiety about her look. This is one of the factors that influences he desire to pursue a number of surgical operations. She considers herself better than those who have tried surgical operations. She broke the three rules in surgical operations and set a new world record. Cindy Jackson has undergone 52 total surgeries on her body and face that she perceived have transformed her from a plain-looking youngster from humble background to a bona fide bombshell. She believes that her surgical results are perfect and undetectable. In addition, she’s confident with the operation and believes it has made her perfect. She says many surgeons have been replaced or retired by next generations yet she’s remained younger. Self-esteem is a characteristic defining what ones feel about themselves. High self-esteem depict a happier and with fewer interpersonal problems. It is normally fostered by experience of unreserved positive regard to one self. However; low self-esteem persons are prone to physiological and psychological ailments. In most, cases experience problems with underachievement and social relationship. After critically analyzing self-esteems categories and considering Cindy’s situation I can deduce she’s of low self-esteem. This can be supported by the fact that she has a physiological problem preempting surgical procedures to boost esteem. It is evident Cindy wanted to prove the world and critics wrong by changing her physical appearance. The two pictures in the website really contrast, 1979 snap could be easily confused to be current state and 2012 one vice versa. The urge for someone to transform his or her appearance is a sense of low self-esteem. Participants use the transformation as a means to massage their weaknesses and underachievement. Self-presentation or impression management is a means people try to manage or control the impressions people make of us. Cindy’s self-presentation is catalyzed by the media and urge to appeal to the public eye. Self-presentation involves physical body, clothing, way you carry yourself and other aspect of presentation. This is evident as the cost of Cindy’s cost of living and maintenance is very high. Self-concept, self-esteem, social life and self-presentation are the core fundamental aspect of physical attractiveness, which prompted Cindy’s physical transformation. The physical attractiveness stereotype of interpersonal attraction factor into your findings about Cindy Jackson The physical attractiveness stereotype is a terminology that psychologists employ to refer to the inclination to presume that people who are bodily attractive also have other socially pleasing personality traits. Physical attractiveness is unrelated to general relationship contentment or to any constructive relationship experiences. However, physical attractiveness is certainly associated with negative aspects of interaction, such as obsession and emotional painfulness. Many people prefer plastic surgery to subdue their insecurities regarding certain features. Jackson’s own interest in aesthetics was intrigued when she relocated from Ohio to London in 1970s to practice work as a performer and photographer. The stereotype played a big part in the decision of Cindy, who was pursuing public attraction and seems her looks disadvantaged her. The belief that attractive people are highly regarded and respected more also urged her to undergo surgeries to quell her low self-esteem. Cindy attributed the craving to drastically transform her physic to low self-esteem and a strict father. She recollected an experience during her early days that left her judgment profoundly about altering her look. It is evidently that everything Cindy did was influenced by the physical attractiveness stereotype. The mass media influence Cindy Jackson’s life-world Jackson’s personal interest to pursue aesthetics; which came to light when she moved to London from Ohio to pursue job as a photographer and performer, is the life-world changer for her. Joining media involve self-presentation, high self-esteem, and good self-concepts. This became a stumbling block since she had low self-esteem and for her to achieve her dreams physical transformation was the solution. Living doll film was also an evident that mass media influence Jackson’s life-world. Cindy Jackson, 48, had 31 surgery operations over fourteen years to appear like Barbie “I watched a Barbie doll while I was six and said, ‘This is what I desire to appear like.’ She utilized $100,000 on surgeries because she ‘sought to appear better’, “Barbie was the plain canvas I packed in all those years before. It remained my role model.” Cindy supposed she was being ‘back trailed by her appearance’ and that with surgical procedure to create her more similar to her idol, she believed her self-esteem was heightened and has a better quality in life. Although this case in point is both extraordinary and extreme, it is fascinating to observe a woman's actions later in life. This is manifestation that mass media really influenced her life style. Cindy has been featured in magazines and news, as the record holder for surgical operations, which launched her in London as the most cosmetic procedures (Jackson, 2008). These fundamentally show that Cindy’s existence, since the launch of her profession, revolved about the mass media The theme of “manufacturing beauty” means? As being echoed in the existence of Cindy Jackson , it evident that the subject matter of manufacturing beauty focuses on possessing a self that dwells on the impression that hope builds dreams , and imaginations creates the unconditional pursuit of these that focus more on the rationale of giving joy to individuals instead of other people . Thus , giving happiness to others necessitates enjoyment from within that , while it explode , attains other people in the society that , in turn , coagulates the manufacturing beauty that en route back again to optimism .
