Ethical Profile Paper Everyone has their own way of differentiating between right and wrong. For me the criterion is to evaluate the situation on the basis of religious beliefs, societal norms and governmental laws. My hero in the ethical perspective is one of my university teachers who convinced me to deal others with respect and honesty in order to maintain a fair and disciplined professional attitude. The ethical models and description available in various books is no doubt the most practical. However the professional environment throughout the world is changing dramatically so one has to analyze the whole situational from different dimensions before making an ethical decision. The professional development goes lifelong similarly the ethics should also be develop throughout the life as there is always a room for improvement. Ethical Profile Paper This paper is aimed at providing my Ethical Profile based on my style of differentiating between right and wrong, good or bad. It will explain about the person who has a deep impact on my ethical approach. The decision making style which I use in my professional life is thoroughly discussed and finally I have some suggestions for further ethical development. Ethical Autobiography At times it is hard to decide what is right? And what is wrong? If one is not following the principles of ethical conduct and course of action. Principles such as honesty, hard work, respect, sensitivity towards one’s fellows including the prevailing norms of the society and most importantly the religious views and beliefs of an individual play a significant role in making choice from two alternative options i.e. between right and wrong. For me the religious beliefs are substantial enough to make any decision as it is the religion which tells you about every aspect of life including personal, social and professional behavior. Then comes the societal norms and laws of the country, if anything is deviating from the law or social norms then I just quit it in order remain in the boundaries of ethical behavior. In our culture respecting elders and seniors is appreciated and required by every individual. For instance, if you maintain a respecting attitude with your teachers then you will surely gain their goodwill which will be helpful for you to have their assistance in your academic and professional life. While on the other hand lying is not only unethical but it is also irreligious as well as against the governmental laws. It may give you timely pleasure or success but in the long run it is always destructive. Hard work instead of applying the short cuts is also our cultural heritage which has a great impact on my personality. Fair dealing whether in a household or in a professional environment is strongly emphasized in our society which has ultimately made me a stronger practitioner of justice and sincerity. Professional/Ethical Hero My hero in terms of ethics is one of my university teachers who taught me financial accounting. He was not only a perfect teacher but also a perfect ethical professional and a great human being who was very determined about his behavior, projected attitude and ethical conduct. In addition to this he was a highly sensitive person and this characteristic was quite evident when once he reprimanded one of my class fellows and by the end of the class he apologize him for his wrong act. He was exceedingly committed to his profession of teaching and therefore he does not used to focus only on the subject rather he also used to give lectures on ethics and morals to make his students best ethical professionals. He had a very distinctive teaching style as he never used to insult or discourage students on their poor performance rather he used to convince them on studying through his discipline and teaching style. His ethical conduct inspired me a lot and it was after his teaching that I learned to be first in making apologies, to deal others according to their intellectual level and to never compromise on discipline, respect and honesty. Ethical Decision Making Style There are different models available to help an individual in making an ethically sound decision. But the situations that we face in real world are completely different from those explained in the books. Despite of the scientific and practical researches the subject of ethical decision making needs further explanation and development as with the time the complexities and uncertainties are increasing with an immense speed (Richard J. McKenna, Brett Martin-Smith, 2005). Therefore one has to do an analysis of the whole scenario in the light of his knowledge, intellect, religious beliefs and societal norms before finalizing any decision. When it comes to make an ethical decisions I try to keep on top the human dignity and human rights over my own personal benefits. But this is done in a systematic and logical manner so that I don’t face huge losses on behalf of others and this I have learnt from my parents. As mentioned above that I am strongly inspired by my teacher in giving respect to others similarly I have learnt from my friends to remain committed to the profession and to give preference to the corporate goals over the personal goals. While making an ethical decision I try to analyze the entire alternatives in the light of present situation then I try to figure out the best possible options and solutions to make the decision. This evaluation is basically done on the basis of my knowledge regarding ethics, my religious beliefs and the norms of the society. Then I further evaluate the considerable options on the basis of human dignity and others’ self respect. In the end I just select the alternative which is suiting best to my criteria. Professional and Ethical Development The professional environment is changing dramatically all over the world with the invention of new technologies and work processes, the whole nature of professionalism and ethics has changed (Norman D. Stevens, (1986). However as per the requirement of the day it is better to learn the ethics and professional ethical conduct. Research says that ethics can easily be learned by just simple investment of time and interest. To further prove this an experiment was conducted for the ethical development of people on the basis of Starratt's three-dimensional model. The results showed that participants merely possessed all three dimensions of the model before the experiment however after the experiment they had a better ethical understanding and improved sense of responsibility (Lyse Langlois, Claire Lapointe, 2010). It infers that one has to move on with the ethical development simultaneously with the professional development. I will definitely try to apply this highly effective model to become a better ethical professional. I would be developing my ethics further on the basis of socialization view of ethical and moral development (James R. Rest, 2009) as it is very important to know one’s culture into the depth so that prevention from social deviation can be sustain. References James R. Rest, (2009).
