The applicants may perceive the recruitment process as a hurdle in their selection or an opportunity to share their individualistic expertise and perfection depending upon what has the academic performance of a certain applicant been or how experienced he/she is. Application of the principles of organizational psychology to the recruitment process A prime concern of the organizational psychologists is why certain teams’ efficiency and productivity is more as compared to others. Organizations want to recruit the employees who can easily blend into the organizational culture and integrate into the workplace in as less time as possible.

Principles of the organizational psychology help the recruiters select the ideal candidates for the organization considering its culture, organizational structure, and work requirements. The recruitment efforts produce useful results with the help of carefully planned interview strategies and effective outreach. Before starting to recruit the employees, the management should be very clear about what kinds of competencies and personality traits they need in the employees so that they can achieve their optimal potential at work.

For example, the personality traits required of employees in a toy store are considerably different from what are required in a tax preparation service. To recruit an employee for a toy store, the organization needs employees with a jolly and friendly nature whereas personality traits required of an employee in a tax preparation service include formal and professional attitude. “Organizational psychological principles help you identify which qualities are the most important and what educational degrees are most likely to attract people with the personalities you seek” (Glass, 2012).

Likewise, the principles of organizational psychology help the management develop the most suitable set of questions to retrieve exactly the information that is valuable for the organization. Selection of the right set of questions helps save the time of the applicant as well as the organization, and the recruitment process turns out to be more effective in terms of selection of the most appropriate employee for the job. Organizational Socialization Organizational socialization is a process through which an organization makes the employee aware of their job responsibilities, as well as the kind of behaviors that are required of them to do their work in the most appropriate manner.

“Organizational socialization, often called employee onboarding, has become an essential process for cash-strapped small businesses that rely chiefly on a talented staff to grow profits” (Vrouvas, 2012). Some organizations also provide their workforce with courses directed at developing their skills and competencies. This results in the customization of the employees’ skills according to the requirements of the organization, and consequentially increases their productivity. The newly recruited employees are taught the behaviors, values, and code of ethics so that they can acquaint themselves with the skills needed to integrate into the organizational culture
