The low socioeconomic status' impact on a child The low socioeconomic status' impact Social stratification results in the split in the society and makes some people feel disadvantaged and resentful out of their natural rights. This is the norm that we see within our own cities there are areas within our respectable cities that the poor are living in a condition that is very poor and in such ghastly states the main reason being that that the people living there either work as house maids, drivers, sweepers or sit at the shops (Tyson, 2002). It is a very accepted and proved fact that there is a very direct connection between the kind of money that they people have and the actual kind of placement in the society that they have. It is beyond question that the people who have very small amount of money and earn little amount than they can live in proper houses or be able to live in lavish conditions while the amount that they are earning is very small in quantity. The poor person will have only one thing on his mind and that is the method or the way to improve him or be able to actually feed himself. The only thought that the person will have on his mind is the avoidance of hungry stomach and proper providence of food for his family. The other reason that we see quite a lot of difference in the social status is that whichever party comes into power that party will have the workers who have benefited from their political position (Collins, Laursen & Hartup, 1999). On the other hand the person who has been in the political party with that person will end up benefitting and living a much better life, while on the other hand if the person does not belong to that political party then the person spends a life of utter gloom, pain and other issues. There are different levels of socioeconomic status that are existent in the society today. The major divisions in the society with regards to the socio economic status is that of higher class, higher middle class, middle class, lower middle class, and lower class. It has been generally seen that people who belong to low income strata or to areas with lower economic growth score lower on the tests. Their lower scores do not necessarily imply that they have low intelligence or possess no knowledge; it’s just that the setup of the test, the language used (in most cases) is not the one they are familiar with. The high scores in test can also be achieved if you have had better schooling and early grooming. There are evidence where children who are made to “open” their minds in the early stages of life by being made to play mind games and puzzles have a general tendency to think “out of the box”, they grasp things like puzzles or mind boggling questions easily and can comprehend and answer them far more easily than others who haven’t been exposed to such activities. The difference that exists between the various classes is quite high, and the people who belong to these live a whole different kind of lives and this is what that ignites the war of differences and tact when the different classes come in contact (Wittig & Wittig, 1984). When a child belongs to low class then he has a lot of feelings of belonging to a family that never has enough to provide for themselves. He lives a life of misery always longing for things that he sees others enjoying and thus feels that he is the most deprived person. When a child sees the other children enjoying that they do not have or can never have this troubles them a lot and they end up feeling deprived. This creates a void in them and this void grows with age. There are two types of reactions that child with such upbringings and backgrounds have. Some of the children have such serious issues with their self-esteems that they end up losing out on many things that they can achieve otherwise. They have no confidence in life and they are at loss at what to do even opportunity knocks at their door. They feel that they are a no one and hence people will never appreciate them or look for the bright things that exist in their lives but only focus on the negative aspects and the negative side of their lives. They feel that their belonging to the lower stature will eventually lead them to think that they are incapable of anything and will never be able to function well in the society. This thinking stops them from mingling with the people in the society and hence they are also unable to have better family lives ahead in their lives too (Wittig & Wittig, 1984). On the other side, these kinds of people are so confident that they can do anything in life. They are well equipped as they braved all kinds of conditions in their own lives and hence they hardly harbor any soft feelings for the people who are struggling, in their opinion these people can and should look to develop and establish themselves in ways that can actually improve their own conditions. The treatment that they have had hardens them or makes them soft enough to actually start treating life in a whole new scenario. Usually people with such backgrounds end up facing a lot of difficulties in life and sometime many of them then seek the help of medical practitioners to make themselves well. The child who belongs to the lower social class will always have issues facing the real world, as they will never have the self confidence to actually gather up the courage and face the world and also be able to gain their own rights, which usually is denied to them since they lack self confidence. It also has been seen that people who belong to lower social classes when they were even if they do not now end up having a lot of issues in life, they never have stable professions and thus this psychologically affects the child’s growth and also hamper the way they deal with different things in life (Hymes, 1955).
