At this juncture, we will consider research exercises in the context of social science of psychology. Social psychology entails the study of individuals within an actual social setting. This discipline allows social scientists to understand the influence of society on an individual’s behavioral mode. This experimental research focuses on the psychological element of motivation. From a psychological perspective, motivation refers to the desire to perform an action based on the aspects of willingness and personal interests (Drillings 45).

This research involves studying the aspect of motivation in an actual social context. I will appraise the participants to unearth information concerning their motivation levels in their daily activities. To ensure objectivity and professionalism, this social research will follow the ideal procedures adopted in typical scientific research exercises. Hypothesis A research hypothesis is a statement that provides an insight into what a research aims at establishing. It is a statement that answers an underlying question.

Hypothesis is an ideal requirement of a research process because it forms foundation of a social or scientific study (Medway and Cafferty 63). This research begins from the formulation of a testable hypothesis that will guide the entire process. The underlying question relates to the social psychological aspect of motivation. . Numerous research exercises conducted in the past shows that setting of clear and realistic goals enhances motivation in professional duties (Medway and Cafferty 64). Therefore, this research seeks to substantiate the relationship between goal setting and motivation levels.

Independent Variable An ideal research hypothesis should contain both the dependent and the independent variable within the hypothesis statement. The research hypothesis stated above, which deals with the relationship between goal setting and motivation has both the requisite variables. An independent variable is the element that should be manipulated and varied in order to observe the trends of the other variable (Medway and Cafferty 70). In this regard, clear goal setting is the independent variable on the hypothesis.

Past research findings postulate that social influence and personality traits are responsible for development of goal setting virtues by an individual. At this juncture, we will seek to vary the aspects of clarity of goals set in order to appraise the trends of motivation among the participants. Dependent Variable Still on the concept of variables, every hypothesis should have a dependent variable. A hypothesis becomes testable upon integration of the dependent variable into the independent variable.

A dependent variable is the element that changes when a researcher manipulates the independent element. In this regard, motivation level is the dependent variable contained in the underlying hypothesis statement. Past research exercise shows that motivation levels depend on the aspect of social cognition which instills social values to an individual (Medway and Cafferty 94). In
