On the other hand, there were negative reactions from family members and acquaintances who initially perceived that the parents were pushing Michael to the limits for their own selfish interests. Shoppers were also in disbelief and thought that the parents were in fact ventriloquists and could not comprehend the possibility that Michael could, in fact, read articulately at such as very young age.
