ID Lecturer Children of Domestic Violence: Learning and School Performance Domestic violence is indeed a huge problem, more so when it concerns with the children and the school performance mechanisms that they form an essential part of. What needs to be understood is how badly domestic violence can affect in school grades, dropouts, negligence towards their studies and a great deal more. Domestic Violence Since domestic violence discusses the aspects of marring the basis of any society in the world, the children bear the brunt of it without any doubt. They have to face the problems at the hands of their elders because they are unable to come to terms with the changing norms and dimensions of the time (Connell, 2011). It also implicates for their understanding of the different aspects which these children believe are trivial but in essence hold a great amount of weight for their seniors. This paper discusses the basis of children who are subjected to domestic violence and how they have been able to cope up with the school performance and learning mechanisms time and time again. These children believe that they have been hard done by because they are only young and do not actually understand how things shape up within the relevant scheme of things. What their elders do not seem to remember is that these children have just arrived in this world and have as such little or no idea about what they are experiencing and going through. It is not very easy for the young ones because their minds are not that developed and at such an impressionable age if they are subjected to domestic violence, this could lead to a lot of problems on their part nonetheless. It could mean that the children go through a tough time and thus unable to face the rigors of the society as well as the learning realms which they undergo within a school setting. Their minds do not accept the fact that they have been treated harshly by their parents, teachers and their elders. They believe that their elders must treat them with love and care because it is their right, and quite correctly so. However, one must understand that the human psyche is such that there are lapses in dealing with the children every now and then (Matthews, 2011). The professional and personal fields of life bring up quite a few pressures on the elders and this is implicated in a number of different ways and means. The children unfortunately have to bear the problems because they do not understand the difficulties that their elders are going through, day in and day out. However, there is no reasoning available that suggests for the domestic violence regimes to creep in within the equation because the children never asked their parents to bring them into this world. It is the responsibility of the parents to take care of them and treat them with respect, love and care because they are their own wards (Peterson, 2011). What is a heinous act in the time and age of today is to treat people in a very violent manner. When the elders do not buy the theory of violence, how can the children expect the same to be meted out to them in entirety? This is a very suggestive aspect that must be comprehended within the relevant scheme of things and if seen properly, can have lasting impacts on the people hailing from different regions of the world. Violence is abhorred in all parts of the world and there seem to be no exception to this rule whatsoever. It means that the young ones do not appreciate when they are hit, spoken in a harsh tone or badmouthed for a number of reasons (Davis, 2011). After all, they are only young to understand all such issues and it is their parents’ duty to make sure that they remain on track and glued with what is happening within their fore. It is the need of the time to get acclimatized with the changing scenarios and if anything has to change here, it is ought to be the attitude of the parents themselves. If this is ensured, they will bring sanity towards the domains of their young ones and guarantee success undoubtedly. When it comes to their school performance and learning realms, the significance become even more. This is because domestic violence has been spoken of in the recent times to have increased drastically. The young ones have borne the brunt of their elders without any mistake on their part. They have felt that their domains have been hurt time and again by the elders for a number of different reasons. Consequentially, this has affected their school performance. It has been shown through research that the school going children have an issue with waking up late if their household had witnessed a fight or a violent activity the night preceding that. It has also been depicted that the young ones who were beaten during the night might get absent from school more than the ones who were abused or spoken loudly on to. The research evidence has been proven time and again and this is the reason why much significance has been paid towards the related settings of domestic violence. The teachers often complain of these students being inattentive and not paying much consideration towards their studies. This is because they are constantly being maltreated at home and elsewhere. If these ranks are made proper, their domains would be made stronger and they would not have to go through such troubles time and again. Instead, their young minds would not wander towards different dimensions which destruct more than bringing any form of sanity. What is quintessential here is to comprehend how well they shape up their domains and what kind of sane relationships are built all this while. The domestic violence premise needs to be shown the door because it creates anarchy across the board and is destructive in its own realms. Within a socio-cultural heading, one needs to contemplate the due role of domestic violence within the related settings of diversity, motivation and gender. This is because no cultural and societal manifestation allows for such domains to come about in a free flowing way. There has to be an understanding of the different dimensions which cultivate domestic violence across the board. How this domestic violence needs to be tapped and kept under a check is something that remains pivotal to comprehend within the due course of things (Wang, 2001). No society in the world appreciates the idea of being violent towards their kids and creating problems of all sorts. These could be the big problems as well as minor, day to day ones. However, one thing that needs to be understood is how well the parents are coping up with their young ones because this not only affects them personally but also in terms of their educational entities. The current issues in education that come to the fore with such domestic violence domains are all the more necessary to get hold of (Midence, 1994). This is because it tells the people where their young ones are straying and what they need to do in order to win back their elders’ favor. The children cannot offer the solutions. Rather what they can do best is to find out why their parents and elders are being violent towards them. It will help solve quite a few problems that the children can think with their young minds. Their impressionable age is such that it leaves quite a few scars upon their personality domains and thus the lasting effect means negativities of the highest order nonetheless. The gender related aspects remain somewhat similar because children are young and hence no demarcation can really be made (Arasteh, 1988). But what deems more significance is how well motivated the young ones are after they have been wrongly treated to domestic violence and how adequately sound they will cope up with the diversity domains within the relevant midst of things. This will make sure that their domains remain stronger with each passing day and that they can ask their parents and the elders to stop maltreating them sooner rather than later. Even though it is difficult for them to ask of their elders to stop doing what they are into, they can actually try if their motivational levels are devised as such. Then again the role of the parents is of essence here as it will dictate how well they shape up their beliefs and viewpoints within the related schemes of domestic violence. Moving on towards the school performance and learning mechanisms, it is of paramount essence to know that these young ones have a very negative effect towards their studies if their motivational levels are just not in line with what they have been taught (Straus, 2009). The treatment becomes difficult to ascertain when they are being taught on a regular basis but they are just not picking up whatever they are being told to learn. The learning process comes to a halt all of a sudden and the role of the parents is quickly incorporated within the relevant settings. This means that any difficulties that arise in the wake of the domestic violence regimes need to be properly taken care of, the sooner the better. The school authorities always take care of the students whenever they are falling back on the standards and when there is the important discussion of handling their affairs on a regular basis (Collins, 2010). This deems significance because they have to foresee where the children will be at a particular student level within their classes and what they will learn with the passage of time. The learning needs to be constant and this is the basis of eventual success if seen properly and within the relevant scheme of things. The domestic violence domains hamper this process inadvertently because the children start believing that their own selves are the victims of something that they might have done in the past or in the current times. They start blaming their own selves for a number of reasons, which are not at all of their own making. In essence, domestic violence is a killer if seen within the related contexts. This is because domestic violence brings about a sense of emptiness within the minds of the young ones. They start believing that it is something out of their own making. It might just hurt their cause for a number of different reasons. The role of the parents is an important one because they have to see where their children are straying down and what they need to learn with the passage of time. The domestic violence elements need to be completely thrown out of the window because it hurts the basis of the children mentally, socially and physically (Liesen, 2011). This has been proven with due research that has been made use of in this paper and will be evidenced further on as and when this discussion emanates in the coming times. The domestic violence domains should always be deciphered in such a manner that there is complete certainty for sanity to prevail in the long term scheme of things. All said and done, these measures should be treated with utmost care and attention because it guarantees harmony and success in the broadest sense and makes people aware of the fact where they are going wrong and how they treat their children with care and love that they richly deserve.
