The paper is divided into five sections, each talking about the kind of profession I wish to pursue, and the various characters that I have. These are the characters and motivations that can help me in pursuing my career. The career that I seek to pursue is that of a business man. I would like to be reputable business leader. It is my believe that engaging in a business process will help in turning me into a wealthy individual. It will also help me to reduce poverty; this is by employing people in my business organization. Who Am I? Career refers to the progress of an individual through the process of life. Career involves a range of an individual work, and learning process. It therefore relates to a variety of concepts or ideas that help to shape the progress of an individual in life (Cope, 2012). Furthermore, career normally relates to the kind of vocation or work that an individual pursues in life. Take for example; an individual may decide to pursue the vocation of a priest hood. This is a career path of the person under consideration. Priest hood is a vocational duty, and sometimes an individual will not receive paying for serving as a priest. However, it is still a career. Another type of work related careers are teachers, doctors, engineers, psychologists, etc. These are professionals who are engaged in working or transferring their skills, for money. Under this concept of a career, there is a need of receiving professional or specialized training education. This is normally considered to be the life work of an individual, or a person (Dunning, 2010). Under this scenario, career is viewed as a sequence of jobs or work that is normally pursued within a single sector or industry. Words such as a career in law, engineering, medicine, etc are used to explain and describe this concept. People have different career aspirations and goals. One career path that is attractive to one person, it is not attractive to another person. For example, an individual might find it luxurious to pursue a career in medicine, and other may not like to pursue a career in the same (Moore, 2010). This is because of different beliefs, perceptions, and ambitions of people. However, people tend to pursue a career that is luxurious, and has a higher standing within the society. For instance, some people may prefer to pursue a career in medicine. This is mainly because it is a prestigious course that an individual can pursue. People might also seek to pursue a career that guarantees them a job opportunity once they are through with college or studies. This is the reason why many science based courses, are attractive to students. Some people are motivated by money seeking a career (Cope, 2012). They would only go to careers that pay well. This is better suited to people who decide to engage in business activities, as their careers. As a person, the career that I need to pursue is in business. I have a deep passion for business, and it is my desire to form a company, that would sale and distribute electronic products. Companies that have motivated me, to think of this idea and career path, include Samsung, Apples, Microsoft, etc (Dunning, 2010). These companies have managed to make billions of dollars in terms of sales, and profits. This is an indication that it is profitable to own and operate an electronic business organization. My other motivation is on the need to pursue my hobby, and childhood dreams. Ever since I was a child, I used to play with electronics such as computers, play stations, video games, etc. By pursuing a career in business, I will be engaging in an activity that fulfils and satisfies my passion (Raddon, 2005). Furthermore, I have good and effective communication skills that can help me to run a business organization. Communication is a very important skill that managers require for running a business organization. This is because it will help them to communicate efficiently and effectively with employees, and customers of the organization (Cope, 2012). Through efficient communication, the company will manage to understand and collect data on the various needs of its customers, and develop strategies aimed at catering for those needs. I am also equipped with managerial skills, and I have a good management capabilities. Good management of an organization is the key, to ensuring that the organization under consideration manages to achieve it s objectives. For example, my main objective of establishing the electronics business organization is to make (Dunning, 2010). Without proper and efficient management skills, it is very difficult to achieve a sense of profitability. The internet has played a major role in helping me to build my managerial and administrative skills (Pavan, 2005). This is because I have been following and reading extensively on some of the successful corporate managers of our time. This includes Steve Jobs, and Bill Gates. The leadership style of Steve Jobs was authoritarian, while the leadership style of Bill Gates was democratic. However, both of these managers achieved success in their careers and fields. The leadership and managerial style that I ascribe to is democratic style of management (Dunning, 2010). This is mainly because of my liberal beliefs, regarding politics and the society. It is my belief that an individual should pursue whatever he or she wants, as long as they do not breach the law. This belief guides me in shaping the manner in which I interact with people, family members, and colleagues at the work place. The major reason of seeking to engage in business is based on the fact that it is a sure way of moving out of poverty. This is because, by engaging in a business, I would make profits, and use this money to make other investments that would turn me into a wealthy individual (Moore, 2010). Furthermore, through opening a business organization, I would also play a role in reducing poverty. This is mainly because the organization will employ people, giving them an opportunity to make a living, hence move out of poverty. It is my desire and aspirations to see a world that is free from poverty. The only way of achieving this is for the government to create policies that encourages investments, as well as creation of jobs, based on the population of the state. Starting a business organization will help me to reduce poverty (Dunning, 2010). Based on these facts, it is my desire to learn more, on the efficient methods of doing business, how to raise capital for the business organization, and how to manage this capital for purposes of achieving efficiency and effectiveness in meeting the objectives of my businesses, or career path (Snyder, 2012). Where Am I Going? One of my major interests is the reduction of poverty within the society, community, and international sphere. The only method of reducing poverty is the creation of more jobs. However, it is impossible to achieve this objective without initiating policies aimed at encouraging the growth of small scale business organizations (Dunning, 2010). Poverty is a term that refers to scarcity, or a state whereby an individual lacks a certain amount of money, or material possessions. I believe that people should not live in poverty. Unfortunately this is the case. Furthermore, despite the presence of many business organizations in United State, there are some people who are still living in poverty. This is an unfortunate event, and the government has failed to protect these people from living in such conditions. Furthermore, some business organizations normally exploit its workers, by paying them very little amount of money. Take for instance Wal-Mart, one of the largest retail stores in the world. The company pays its workers very little, compared to the kind of profits that the organization manages to make (Cope, 2012). This is the reason the company normally experiences a high labor turn out, with employees leaving the company, for purposes of seeking other better sources of employment. It is my belief, that when establishing a business organization, there is a need of paying the employees of an organization very well. This is a motivational measure, as well as a moral responsibility. It is morally upright and correct, for an employer to carter for the needs of their employees. This will motivate them to work efficiently and effectively for an organization, hence meeting the various objectives of the business organization. To solve the problems of poor pay, the US government initiated a policy whereby there is an establishment for a minimum pay for workers. The intention of this policy is to prevent poverty and poor conditions of life, by establishing a base rate that unskilled and unprofessional worker can receive. The current minimum wage rate, per hour is 7.50 dollars (Dunning, 2010). However, this amount of money is very little, and cannot adequately carter for the needs of these people (Friedman and Kovner, 2013). The best method of reducing poverty is therefore creating an environment where there is economic growth, small and large businesses are able to thrive. When this happens, there will be a shortage of labor, and business organizations will begin paying more for the available labor. This will result to an improvement in the standards of an individual’s life or living. I greatly believe that pursuing a career in employment would never make an individual wealthy. This is because they will be living on salaries. Life on salaries is not sufficient to make an individual wealthy. However, there is an exception to this situation. Business managers of large multi-national companies are considered wealthy by all means. This is because they earn lots of bonuses, and they are allowed to own the shares of the company (Cope, 2012). Furthermore, their salaries normally account to millions of dollars. This is as opposed to junior employees and middle scale managers who are not entitled to such kind of benefits and entitlements. This is unfair practice, mainly because if managers are entitled to bonuses, junior and middle scale employees should also receive the same. Through this action, there will be a fair treatment of employees, hence motivating them into working hard for purposes of meeting the objectives and mission of the business organization. It is this equal treatment of employees that I seek to pursue while establishing my electronic business (Dunning, 2010). All employees of my organization would receive equal treatment, regarding bonuses. Differences will emanate on the salary paid to skilled and unskilled workers. Furthermore, I also believe in diversity of the work force. Diversity refers to a process in which an organization will employ people of different cultural background. A diverse workforce is important for a business organization, and this is mainly because they come with different experiences, and when used in a business organization, it may result to efficiency (Friedman and Kovner, 2013). This means that satisfaction of the various needs of customers. For any organization to achieve success in whatever they do, it is essential and mandatory that they meet the needs of a customer. Through this action, the company will build a positive brand name. This process can only be achieved by hiring a diverse work force, who are well motivated, and experienced enough (Cope, 2012). Ability to satisfy the needs of a customer is the reason why I believe in hiring a diverse and motivated workforce for my business organization. Based on these facts and information, what I desire out of life is to reduce poverty within the society. It is my desire to see people living a comfortable life, capable of meeting and satisfying their daily needs. This desire and vision emanates from the various documentaries I have seen in the television. This is in regard to the effects of poverty within the community. Furthermore, becoming a business leader is my passion and ambition of life. I am looking for an opportunity to be a respectful business leader, following the likes of Steve Jobs, and Bill Gates (Dunning, 2010). By starting my own business organization, and expanding it to the international arena, will give me the opportunity of becoming a business leader (Moore, 2010). However, this requires a lot of patient, time, and hard work. To achieve this mission and goal of life, there is a need of attending business coaching sessions, acquiring a post graduate qualification in Business Management, and reading a lot of internet articles, on successful business leaders and managers. However, my concentration will be to study business organizations that pursue a democratic model of management. Examples of these organizations include Singapore Airlines and Microsoft under the leadership of Steve Jobs (Dunning, 2010). Through this action, I believe that I will learn a lot concerning the best ideals of efficiently managing a business organization. Through dedication, hard work, and patience, it is my belief that I will manage to achieve the laid down goals. How Do I Get There? The next process in achieving my career aspirations is developing a plan of action. This plan is essential in guiding me, on the procedure and process of meeting my career objectives and aspirations. In developing a plan of action, there are various elements that I would need to consider. These elements include the necessary capital I can acquire, the kind of skills; I will be looking for, where I will get my supplies, and the level of education and skills that I have, which can help me to pursue this career (Cope, 2012). Capital is an important element, without which, it is impossible to start the business organization. There is a need of looking at the different ways and methods of acquiring capital. These methods include personal savings, bank loans, contribution from friends, and even receiving sponsors from other interested partners. The easiest way of acquiring capital is contribution from friends, and personal savings. However, chances are high that the money raised will not be sufficient. On this basis, it will be necessary to seek the help and support of banking organizations. However, getting a loan from a banking institution is not easy for a start up business. This is because the business organization does not have guarantees that will convince the banks to advance it a large source of capital. It will therefore be necessary to look for sponsors or donors willing to fund this business idea (Dunning, 2010). This would be a difficult process, but it should be done. I will therefore look at the internet for any institution or organization that sponsors small business organizations. The acquisition of the necessary skills is also an important step in meeting my ambitions and objectives. The organization will need engineers and sales persons for purposes of meeting the objectives of the business organization. Hiring the right kind of people is a skill, and hence it will be necessary to seek the services of a professional human resource organization (Friedman and Kovner, 2013). This organization will have the responsibility of advertising, interviewing, and recruiting the right employees for the business organization. It is important for an organization to recruit the most efficient and effective employees for an organization. This is because of employees play an important role in meeting the objectives and aims of an organization. Without the right skills, the organization will fail to meet its own mission and objectives. This situation justifies the use of the human resource organizations to recruit and identify talented employees for the company (Dunning, 2010). Furthermore, these companies would provide an advice on how to motivate the employees of the organization, so that they may get an efficient and effective input from these employees. This can help in ensuring that the company meets the needs of its customers. There is a need of analyzing the environment, for purposes determining the level of competition that the company will face. For example, the major competitors that my business may face are Samsung, Casio, Apples, etc. These are some of the business organization I will be forced to compete against. These organizations are large, and they enjoy economies of scale. It would therefore force me, to target a particular market segment, and differentiate my products, for purposes of making it attractive to these segments (Cope, 2012). As a businessperson, the best area where I would like to start my business is in New York. The state has some potentials of growth, and good infrastructures that can help me pursue my business objectives and mission. To succeed, there will be a need of establishing a positive relationship with all the stakeholders of the company. This includes the government, prospective customers, and employees of the organization (Pavan, 2005). Creating a positive relationship will help the organization to communicate effectively with its customers, and hence collect data regarding the best methods of satisfying their needs. Satisfaction of the needs of a customer is the most effective method of gaining a competitive advantage over rival companies (Cope, 2012). I would also seek to engage in an environmental conservation activities. This includes cleaning of roads, planting of trees, etc. The intention of this action is to create a positive brand name for the company. Having a positive brand image is essential in ensuring that the company that I formed manages to achieve a competitive advantage over its rivals. Furthermore, to achieve my global aspirations, I intend to form mergers and alliances with various like-minded companies. An alliance and a merger is one of the most effective ways and strategies of expanding into an international market. This is because the company will benefit from the advantages of economies of scale; it will use their distribution and sales channel, etc. There is also a plan of controlling the long term survival of my business organization. This is by creating reserves that emanates from the profits that the organization achieves. These reserves will be used in sustaining the business organization during the periods when it is making losses. Conclusion: Becoming a business personality is an important career to me. This is because it will help me in achieving my objective of becoming a business leader. My main motivation of seeking to pursue a career in business is to fight poverty. Eradication of poverty is an important method of improving the social and economic lives of people. Through this career, I believe that I will manage to achieve my dreams of becoming a business leader. References: Cope, K. (2012).
