Similarly, a number of factors, building and institutions that are present in modern times influence the development of a city. In fact, as per the statistical records gathered in modern times, the growth of major cities found in various states is attributed to these institutions. Case in point, the development of Miami has been influenced by a number of institutions based within the city and in the neighboring regions. For instance, in a number of ways, Florida International University has helped mould Miami into the city it is today. Background Information on the Development of Miami City In 1965 with the aid of Senator Robert Haverfield, senate bill 711 was amended. This bill directed Board of Regent (BOR) to establish a good idea for development of Miami University. Therefore, an abandoned airfield was brought to use by creation of more college infrastructure. Later in 1969, Florida International University was founded. Historical records reveal that this was under the influence of President Perry chuck and other three prominent Leaders. Presently, the Florida International Ivory Tower is called Florida International University (FIU). In addition, it is considered to be among the first and largest university in United States of America. Nevertheless, this is a attributed to the fact that the institution has been able to produce good students who have great experience in their work (Tebeau, 1971, p. 27). In any case, it is obvious that FIU produces elite who are able to meet the demands of employers. Furthermore, the group looks and works hard to meet the demands of its client (students). Additionally, since its establishment, the spirits of entrepreneur has been born in the institution. Therefore, this has lead to the establishment of some new technique that related to management and business. However, the school was officially opened in 1972 with five thousand six hundred and sixty seven students. Since then, the institution has been able to provide a variety of faculties both full time and part time (Tebeau, 1971, p.32). In 1976, Hartod Crosby was elected to be the next president and this benefitted the basis for three-year period interim. During his leadership, the company expanded and opened a north campus. Moreover, the president made numerous progresses to the university, such as implementing new programs that made individual students perform better. In addition, some courses within the hospital were looked into. For example, the program the president made with the Latin America and Caribbean. In fact, despite his resignation in 1979, President Crosby boosted the hospital. However, in order to ensure that the installation was completed with efficiency, the main shareholders decided to establish a permanent president who could take up the job. Hence, this led to installation of the third president Gregory Wolfe, a renowned white house political leader (Didion, 1987, p. 25). During his reign, President Wolfe also made various progresses to the institution of FIU. In fact, each president made positive impacts to the growth of the institution. However, the university always worked to establish and satisfy the needs of the students. Therefore, this led the institution to progress at a faster rate since it admitted many students and product best elites. Nonetheless, that is not the only reason why the institution has prospered in modern times and influenced the growth of Miami. Didion(1987) claims that Florida International University does allow students from a different part of the world (p.55). Case in point, the students come from different countries and in the process, import new ideas from their mother country. Hence, this implies that FIU creates a situation that seeks to bring in various people from different ethnicity to learn together. As a result, these students get an opportunity to acquire knowledge from FIU. Furthermore, they also learn different people’s cultures required the interaction in the institution. Nevertheless, some aspects of the cultures dispute lead to neglecting of some cultural practices that hinder development (Didion, 1987, p. 55). Conversely, over the years, occupants of Miami City have learnt to ignore some other cultural practices. As Pierterse (2008) observes, this trend results in negative impacts since it could hinder the development of Miami (p.48). This is because it prevents the interaction of individual students from different ethnicity. Hence, one can assert that with respect to the establishment of FIU , Miami city has immensely grown. From the historical books of records, FIU was the first institutions to offer education to international students. This is in the sense that the institution was the first to accept students from other countries and so, students from a different nation came to learn in FIU. Therefore, this resulted to an increased demand for various commodities and facilities within the city. For example, there was an increased demand for motels that could prepare international dishes that could be consumed by international students. Hence, this led to the provision of ready market for commodities of different tastes in Miami city. Consequently, more companies preferred to invest in the city of Miami thus contributing towards the growth of Miami city (Reps, 1994, p. 35). Moreover, interaction in the institution also provided a platform upon which one can identify different business opportunity. In fact, students in FIU, who came from different backgrounds, were able to identify good and business opportunity that could be put to practices around the institution (Miami city).Thus, their presence and increased research activities aided in the fast growth and development of Miami city. FIU was developed from a traffic watching tower therefore, this means that infrastructure such as road networks around the institutions were improve in order to set a good platform for the growth of the city. Therefore, this eased the transport of goods and services to the city and thus contributing towards the growth of the city (Mailer, 1968, p.63). Furthermore, as Mailer (1968, p.65) further explains, it is a requirement that for learning to take place, there must be security around the institution. Therefore, this implies that around FIU, there was security and this contributed to the increased number of investors and stokes holders who were ready to invest in the city. Additionally, according to Mailer (1968), this also increased the number of people migrating from various towns to come and live around the institution (p.76). Hence, in addition to the increased demand for more facilities and commodities, the people were a source of labor for numerous companies. Therefore, investors that had built within the city were able to maintain their companies following availability of cheap labor and ready market (Mailer, 1968, p.77). As discuss earlier, FIU was once a traffic-watching tower, therefore, this area had a good or well established network communication. Hence, international Investors who had already established their companies within the region utilized this factor to enhance their business activities. As time went by, FIU improved the communication facilities and this increased the confidence of the investors on effectiveness of the communication facilities. In any case, a good established communication is considered as one of the factors that investors do look into before they decide to invest in a place. This is because communication plays a great role by providing information to investors and occupants, when identifying business opportunity and meeting the needs of clients. Therefore, with this respect, one can say that FIU contributed development of Miami city (Reps, 1994, p. 77). Furthermore, some facilities such as power availability was easily accessed for the area around FIU and since these facilities determines the position of a factory or a company, it is clear that most of this region was an open field. Nevertheless, with the development of FIU, these facilities were closed to the occupants and investors of the city but later developed to meet the needs of the people. Hence, this further increased the number of investors willing to establish their corporations within the city (Reps, 1994, p. 27). Furthermore, with the construction of FIU, medical services were brought to the doorstep of occupants of Miami city. Therefore, this ensured that the occupants around the area accessed good medical facilities. As a result, the occupants of the region found no reason to make them want to migrate to another region as the facilities made them feel well catered for. However, it also lead to the increased number of people living within the city. Case in point, people were able to migrate to the region in search of better medical facilities. Therefore, since FIU had good established medical facility, they were able to settle within the region. Hence, this led to the continued growth of the city (Mailer, 1968, p.156). Consequently, administration of large numbers of students in FIU led to construction of affordable housing facilities to cater for the large numbers of students. This meant that housing facilities around FIU were affordable and available; many people therefore, preferred to live around FIU. This led to development of the neighboring environment around the university leading to growth of the city. Aestheticism is another factor that determines the growth of a city and in the case of FIU and Miami, one can assert that it aided in the growth of the city. This is because FIU was developed on good scenery that laid foundation to the occupants about definition of beauty. Hence, since the institution had well-organized structures and good as well as beautiful constructions, people were able to borrow the ideas of constructions. This factor laid a role in the essence that people admired the buildings. Due to this, more people from across the globe got a chance to visit the city just to view the structures. Hence, this made them tourists within the region and their presence led to an increased number of activities carried out. For instance, it led to the employment of various individuals within the city, increased ready market for various products and thus further developing the city (Bettison, 1975, p. 67). However, may be the constructions are not the only thing that attracted tourists to Miami. As per the historical books, the region has good climatic condition that appealed to many people. Therefore, this favorable climate, attributed to development of Miami city (Monkkonen, 1988, p. 51). Conclusion In conclusion, FIU has laid great attributes to development of Miami city. This is especially through construction of the university, improvement of security in the city, and eases the accessibility to recourses and facilities. Furthermore, it has resulted in the growth of the city as its presence has led to construction of affordable housing facilities that could be used by both the student and investors. In addition, it has provided a ready market for communities that could be used in the institution, provided students with skills which could be used to solve various problems in the town, provided employment to some of its students and finally, and improved the communication facilities around the area.
