 The Impact of Immigration on the U.S Currently Introduction In the United States, immigration has been a very complex demographic phenomenon leading to cultural change and population increase throughout the United States history. The amount of immigrants in the United States is approximately more than a fifth of the total U.S. population. The continued immigration in the United States has brought up both negative and positive social, political, and economic impacts (Camayd-Freixas, 2013). A firm support continued immigration in American has brought significant ingredients in economic growth, political, and social changes in the country. Economic impacts of immigrants One of the major avidly and important debate about immigration is the effects it causes to the United States’ labour and economic force. Approximately, there are 12 twelve million immigrants in the United States currently, and the impacts they cause to the economic status of the United States is perceived as both negative and positive (Anderson, 2013). The major argument supporting current immigration in the United States is that the migrants are able to do the type of jobs that Americans are unable to do. Given the fact that Americans are unable to compete with the country’s immigrants for jobs, wage rates have not been changed for many years. The question here is, who is now hurt by the current immigrants by carrying out the jobs that the whites are unable to do? For example, the Americans who do not hold high school diplomas, experience much effect of this situation (Anderson, 2013). Approximately, the immigrants in the United States lower the wages of low skilled workers by 3 to 8% per annum. In addition, the Americans who try to compete with immigrants in such jobs end up gaining an extra $25 per week if immigrants are severely cut down. Simultaneously, the low salaries paid to the current immigrants in low-skilled jobs aid in lowering the production cost, thus resulting in reduction of product prices in industries like agricultural, restaurant, and construction. In addition, since most of the immigrants send portions of their earnings to their home countries for consumption, this stimulates the economy of the United States by moving out of the country and spending a big portion of the earning they make (Camayd-Freixas, 2013). Immigrants also improve production technologies that make their firms less labour-intensive as well as more automated. Another economic impact of immigrants is their usage of government service. Most of immigrants receive their salaries in the form of cash, meaning that a large group of immigrant workers are not deducted federal taxes. If the immigrants pay federal taxes, this is only because they have fraudulent information. However, their salaries are too minimal and if they pay federal taxes, the contributions will be insignificant. Consequently, most white Americans argue that the current immigrants cost the United States government a considerable amount of cash through the provision of benefits such as healthcare, education, welfare, and food assistance programs (Anderson, 2013). Most of the immigrants who benefit from these services do so because, if a child of an immigrant was born in America, such a child is a citizen of American and has the right to enjoy these government services. Therefore, there is no clear answer whether immigrants have positive or negative impacts on the current American’s economy. Political impacts of immigrants It will not surprise the residents of London that the recent results of census show that the white Americans have decreased by 45% in the country’s capital. Some of the political leaders argue that this percentage is lower because those who were filling the census forms filled the wrong data. (Ramakrishnan & Ramírez, 2006) The truth is that a great percentage of the people living in this state are immigrants from different countries. Immigrants in the United States amount to more than half the total population of the country. Currently, the amount of immigrants arriving in most states is 3.8 million. Most of these immigrants come from Poland, India, and Pakistan. One can bear in minds that, this approximation of four million are people that we know. The current estimated number of immigrants in the United States is ranging from half to one million (Hanson & University of California, San Diego, 2005). The total number of immigrants is normally unclear because, the American ministers avoid talking about the gross immigration rate and what they only do is talk about the net immigration. The fact is that, the immigrants who currently arrive in the United States in great numbers have a huge strain on what is called social cohesion more than those leaving the country due to this community-to-community vary. If one thinks that the increased number of immigrants is dependent on coalition government, he or she will be wrong. The politics of United States, immigrants are very complicated. Most of immigrants seem to support labour, although the situation indicates that the parties must take a serious allegiance for all communities for granted. However, for the white Americans who are the majority population, the political impacts caused by the increased numbers of immigrants are not appealing. The immigrants also cause political indifferences. This is because the immigrants have different views when it comes to politics. On the other hand, the Democratic Party of The United States is termed as the party having a stronger position of immigrants overall (Espenshade, 2007). Most researches also indicate that, the religious affiliation has impacted on both voting patterns and social values of immigrants as well as the entire population of the United States. Currently, there are talks between several American’s political leaders such as Susana Martinez and Bobby Jindal, suggesting that there should be a friendlier approach towards American’s immigrants. Cultural impacts of immigrants Three ways exist in which immigrants are helping United States culture. -Immigrants give the American’s economy a “net boost” and creation of jobs The current Newsweek came out with stories explaining that both illegal and legal immigrants have positive impacts on the American’s economy. The legal migrants seem to be more capable of creating new business opportunities than the white Americans who are born in American. On the other hand, illegal immigrants contribute to the U.S federal government through income taxes and social security payments (Loveless, 2006). The small businesses operated by these immigrants create job opportunities, while the illegal immigrants take less for the country’s federal government than they provide monetary thus creating a net benefit towards the national government. -Immigration allows America to open its borders for varying culture's ideas, and languages In the field of travelling, mostly American boast that they travel to all the states, but the truth is that, only 30% of the Americans have passports. This indicates that most Americans interact with other people from different cultures within the borders. Following the current globalization, this condition teaches citizens of America to be respectful for different types of cultures (Bertho, 2005). Most employers are currently looking for this essential aspect. In addition, employers are looking to employ employees who understand different cultures due to the issue of globalization. This aspect is becoming more significant when it comes to the fact that every five individuals living in America, one of them is able to speak at least an extra language other than English. Thanks to the increment of immigrants in the country, the United States is now able to increase the capacity of language (Loveless, 2006). Moreover, the diversity of different cultures also fosters overall tolerance and diversity of thinking, simply because immigrants introduce their cultural practices and beliefs in the United States customs. -Immigrants also allow the other nations to view America positively Currently, there are thirty seven million immigrants in the United States. This amounts to 12% of the total American’s population. The family, relatives and friends of these immigrants contribute towards the two trillion dollars in the industry of travel and tourism in America. These friends and relatives travel back to their home countries and spread the goodness of America (Bertho, 2005). In addition, the immigrants travel back to their homelands and tell their friends and relatives about the American lifestyle during vacations. This two-way travel allows immigrants from different cultures to have interest of coming to America. This result in increase of diverse cultures in America. The interaction of these diverse culture results in the advancement of technology, thus improving production and economic status of America. Conclusion In conclusion, immigrants have both positive and negative impacts on the current political, cultural, and economical status of the United States but the positive impacts outweigh the negative ones. The firm support that continued immigration in American has brought significant ingredients in economic growth, political, and social changes in the country (Loveless, 2006). Immigrants has resulted in interaction of varying cultures in the United States, thus fostering overall tolerance and diversity of thinking, simply because immigrants introduce their cultural practices and beliefs in the United States customs. America needs leaders who will support immigration and inform the Americans that, the illegal and legal immigration do not cause harm to the society, but enhance political, economic, and cultural status of the United States.
