It is, so far, the only planet that is known to have the capacity to support human life. It, with this respect, has a variety of living things, majorly classified into plants and animal kingdoms.

A consideration of the plant kingdom identifies millions of plant species but human beings still play a fundamental role, in inter-species interactions, to establish their importance on earth. While the earth has biotic diversity with defining interactions, little evidence exists to show the possible existence of life on the other planets. This induces uncertainty and prompts the need for research amidst theories that people have helped with about the universe. Efforts by astronomers developed knowledge about each planet of the solar system, however, developed awareness of each planet’s potential and helped to dispel wrong perspectives that people had developed, and held on, to about the planets (Trimble 19).

Information exists that demonstrates order in the universe, an arrangement whose existence is known but whose origin and history remain a mystery that only scientific research can unlock. The course has, however, and through different approaches, been helpful in developing knowledge of the solar system. Its content which covers much information about the solar system has been informative, and independent research on emerging issues and concerns on existing theories on the solar system has improved my understanding of the system.

One of the lessons that I have learned about the universe is its long-term existence, dating back to more than 38 million years ago. I have also developed insights into forces around the universe that hat has sustained it (Trimble 37). In addition, I have developed great insights from the course with the need to preserve the universe as an important responsibility that human beings have. In understanding the role of the earth in the universe, the course has informed me of the need for human beings to be effectively involved in ensuring the sustainability of the universe.

Even though natural mechanisms exist, initiated and facilitated by different elements of the solar system, which ensures the sustainability of the solar system, humans must play an active role in sustainability through controlling actions. Some activities, for example, destabilize the universe and human beings need to abstain from such activities in order to ensure the sustainability of the universe. Human beings only contribute to a little percentage of the composition of the universe but have an important role in the sustainability of the universe (Trimble 68).

The course has established my interest in astronomy and I expect this to influence my career selection. The course also informed me of facts about the universe and therefore undermined myths that humans hold. Understanding the role of human beings in ensuring the sustainability of the universe has also been a significant effect of the course.
