Compare and contrast research essay Human beings are ambitious, purposive and goal directed. They have a lot of expectations and for their lives; and they work day and night to make their dreams come true. A person, who does not dream of a better tomorrow, cannot attain anything; as, urge is the motivator which show us a way to success. A person, who loses his will and wish for the betterment can never be blessed with the best outcome. Ambitions are valuable for everyone, but up to the time till the life permits. After that time lays a universal and natural fact called death; everyone has to face it at the end of this life. Death is a fact which most of the people ignore during their lifetime; however, this is a thing which everyone has to taste whether willingly or unwillingly. Shaver and Mukilincer (n.d.) have expressed their concern regarding the human psyche about death. They say that being human we should be aware of the fact that we have to die one day. Death is the moment of nothingness when a person loses everything i.e. Feelings, emotions and obviously loved ones. Most of the people think that death and dying are the same, but it is not the case. If someone is dying, he or she might get a chance to recover and get back to the joys of life. However, the one who is dead can never get such a chance. Death is an ultimate thing, after which all the things become meaningless. You might have seen old people suffering from various diseases and longing for death. For such people, dying and death are the same; as the life seems aimless and meaningless to them. We see that those, who were successful in their youth period, prove to be a failure in their old age. The question arises as to the underlying factors and reasons behind it. The answer is, their hope which was very high when they were young, but which is lost in their old time. The same phenomenon of human strength to fight for life is described in the novel “man’s search for meaning”. It is said that, it is the meaning of life which awakes the urge to live in a human. Hopeless behavior ultimately leads a person to death. Good and bad times are experienced by every individual in the world. Being human beings, we do not have the power to choose between sorrow and joy, however, we do have a right to fight for the things that we want in our life. Retreating from a battlefield can never lead the army to win the wars. Same is the case with the human’s ambition, sitting back and doing nothing will not earn anything for a person. People have to use their strengths to get what is best for them. Frankl shares his experiences of life; how he survived in prison when others were dying because of lack of food and medicine. It is not a complex philosophy that a man suffering from hunger and diseases, suffers when others suffering from same conditions die. It is just a matter of how you take a critical situation. We just need to stop them for thinking about death all the time, just as the author did to keep him alive. In such situations, where it seems difficult to live, it is advisable for human to stay positive and to debar from negative thinking as negativity calls for a greater and earlier loss than the upcoming one. Times come when people feel like they are going to die but they should focus on the thing that actually they are not dead yet , they have an opportunity to get the joys of life back . Instead of losing all the hopes and sit to wait for death, people should fight for life. It is proven medically that if patients have a strong will to live then they recover quickly, however, in contrast to this, those who lose their love for life, die! Jennifer Welch told that every year a high number of cancer patients are admitted to the hospital but only a few survive. The reason behind this fact is the same as given by Frankl. Another thing to be noted in the novel “man’s search for meaning” is that the author does not think about his responsibilities against his parents instead he keeps on dreaming about the joyful moments. These are the psychological tactics to stay alive in a deadly environment. Human psyche frames the human behavior; if a person deals the situation calmly and intelligently, he can learn to behave in a positive manner. In contrast to what Frankl said Dalton Trumbo in his novel “ Jhonny got his gun “ says that death is unpredictable and it has to come no matter a man have strength for life or not. He tells how a person fighting for life dies. It is a painful truth that at times these fights become meaningless in front of the moment of death. Trumbo portrays the painful feeling of death, how a person cuts from the whole world in just one moment. Having spent many years in this beautiful world it is hard for a dead man or woman to accept that he/ she will never get a chance to go back to his world again. Cat says; that during our life we do not really think about what a great blessing our life is , we always think that we are comfortable with death as we have seen many people dying. However, this is not the case in reality. Intelligent are the ones who always think what they can earn from their life. This is the best approach to live a happy and contented life. Few people pledge this great blessing to fight for a certain cause, if that cause benefits you directly then obviously it is in our best interest. However, the cause needs to be carefully chosen, as not all aims may be in our interest or favor. According to the Trumbo, before taking this big decision a person should have analyzed about what will he get and loose by doing a certain task. If the person loses his life against nothing then it is an unfair deal. He says the people who die for others are fooled as they die while fighting for causes which do not ultimately benefit them. Army men fight for the sake of their country and they do not care about their own life. They are taught that the life pledged for their country, makes their hereafter life much better than their current life. A question which arises in everyone’s mind is whether some dead person revived to explain how happy he was? If not, what are the basis of such assumptions and baseless ideas? Life is a very precious thing; it is given just once, so no one should risk it for others. At times people create artificial wars and force others to fight with them. If you analyze the wars fought in America for liberty and decency you will find that they got nothing in return but lost so many lives. Is this what a human life is worth? Do we get something if we give our lives while getting the ambitions of other people? Life is a precious thing and we cannot lose it so easily. This thought is common in both the novels. Although explained differently, but both the novels actually tell the reader about the importance of life and advise them to care about it. To forget about the occurrence of death and to busy ourselves in the hustle and bustle of this world cannot be a solution. To give life a meaningful end, is a better idea in my opinion. Our deeds should be representative of ourselves and should make others learn as to how life is led in an honorable manner. However, it does not mean that we must keep thinking about death all the time and die quickly and easily as Victor said: we should fight for our life and should make it valuable.
