St. Augustine St. Augustine as a reformer has been an inspiration to many people struggling to end certain vices. Hismother, St. Monica, used to pray for him since he never believed in Christianity as a true religion. He thought he could not live a pure life. He felt ashamed when he heard that two men had suddenly been converted when he read the life of St. Anthony. Additionally, he realized that people with all their knowledge were cowards and kept rolling around in the mud of sins. He began a new life after reading the letters of St.

Paul which asked people to put away all their impurity and live in imitation of Jesus (Augustine 2008, 78).He saw mankind as “a mess of sin” that that cannot raise himself from spiritual death. To him, man was so fallen and evil in mind because of sin such that he is not capable of turning from sin and obeying God’s commandments (Augustine 2008, 45). He felt that only God was to be thanked for redemption. His view about redemption was that everything turns to God because He is the creator of the universe and ideal. St. Augustine feels that the consequence of fall is to stay in darkness devoid of the truth; while the consequence of redemption is wisdom, light and truth (Augustine 2008, 56).

He realized that Christianity was the true religion after redemption.In conclusion, there is a strong connection in St. Augustine’s view of the fall and redeemed and the confession of his life.
