Running Head: Piaget’s Legacy Piaget’s Legacy inserts his/ her Reaction Paper on Piaget’s Legacy, By John Flavell The article construed by John Flavell, titled “Piaget’s Legacy” is indeed one that I found to be meticulously researched. It profoundly increased my knowledge on the subject of cognitive development. Many debates have wrung regarding Piaget’s work and many thoughts have been expressed. The purpose of my writing today is to produce on paper my insight with regard to one of the papers published on Jean Piaget by John. H. Flavell.
In the writing of Flavell I found deep respect for Piaget’s work. Of particular interest to me was the emphasis that Flavell laid on the direction that Piaget’s thoughts took. I quite agree with him on this observation. He thought about things that no one else ventured close to. I found this aspect fascinating that he took a unique approach towards developmental psychology. It is intriguing to me because I believe that if we are better able to comprehend the cognitive structures and their means of development in the formative years of child hood, it could prove to be highly efficacious for the growth of developmental psychology, so much so that we may come up with answers to peculiarities.
We may also learn to intervene earlier and salvage the damage that is already done by different disease processes, merely by widening our knowledge and understanding of both the normal and the abnormal. At a point in the article, Flavell mentioned that Piaget introduced into the world the idea that children are not passive learners. I found this concept to be very true to life and interesting. The fact that children learn by an active process certainly helps to broaden our horizons towards a process that is not simple.
Although, the article mentions that such a cognitive structure is the result of evolution and biological adaptation, I doubt whether limiting ourselves to this explanation is wise. I believe that we must strive to comprehend the complexities that lay latent behind these conclusions. In a point in the article, Piaget’s equilibrium model has been discussed. To me it is very simplified and needs to be more objective in gauging developmental change. Over all, the article to me was very beneficial in increasing my knowledge regarding cognitive psychology.
It has motivated me to expand my understanding of the subject further. It has reiterated my thirst for this subject.
