Find examples of at least two types of departmentalization that would be used in a restaurant.

Departmentalization is simply defined as the “manner or practice in which related individual tasks and their allocation to work groups is combined, to form a specialized functional area that is distinct from other functional areas in an organization” (Business Dictionary, par. 1). In a sit-down restaurant, the bases for departmentalization would be functions of staff from those preparing the meals and those who are serving them. Therefore, aside from the major functional departmentalization type that could be further subdivided into: reception, administrative, purchasing, production (cooking), and serving, another type could be in terms of reporting or chain of command: as the cooks report to the chef, the servers report to the service manager, the backroom personnel report to administrative manager. 12. (TCO 7) How do the reward system and organization culture affect innovation in organizations?

Reward system is designed depending on the composition and personalities of the leaders and subordinates, as well as the ability to achieve organizational goals. The organizational culture, on the other hand, is the set of symbols and underlying beliefs and values of the organization or its work force. Both reward system and organizational culture affect innovation depending on the values, preferences, personalities and goals of the personnel. Thereby, an organization reflecting on implementing innovative strategies, must determine the characteristics, traits and cultural orientation of their people to enable them to design appropriate approaches to ensure that innovative strategies would be received with minimal resistance and would therefore be implemented smoothly and effectively.
