Full Paper Answer A system development approach is an essential component that contributes to the business decision process. It has a wide impact that is based on cost, time and finished product extracted from the system development for an organization. In this current business environment, there is a requirement for creating rapid and robust applications in order to stay competitive in the market. However, the process includes various departments for requirement analysis and resolving issues during identification of weaknesses.
Moreover, in some cases, business process changes are modified that are considered the root cause of the issues. Employees related to management should be well aware of various approaches for removing the weaknesses and select the best-suited method, according to the nature of business, resources and the control required over the process. Hence, all stakeholders must participate and show their interest in the selection process. Answer 2 In order to reduce cost on system development, organization purchase fourth generation tools or software packages.
As the in-house ‘software development’ cost is high, organizations prefer to buy them from external software houses. Organizations may purchase the software from the vendors, outsourcing organization or application service providers. As business nature of the departments do not change at a rapid pace and are common in almost every organization including inventory control, general ledger, payroll processing and account receivables do not change over a long period of time. Applications that are purchased from external sources can be adjusted to the similar in nature business process of an organization.
This is a cost saving factor, as applications are purchased from external sources along with customization and maintenance support, which is a responsibility of vendors. These factors conclude that the application software packages reduce the system development cost. Answer 3 As a manager, I would conclude the following factors: Is the application widely used by the employees? What are the privileges for the overseas application users? What skill sets are required, in order to access and work on the application The functionality and the purpose of application How much time and cost required to build a local and overseas application.
Answer 4 Organizations may use global Intranet and Extranet applications that are based on Virtual private networks. As per network dictionary VPN is defined as “VPN refers to a group of technologies to provide Virtual Private Network services over the Internet between the Ethernet LANs”. ‘VPN’ circuits are configured by ISP’s (Internet service providers) using the Public networks. The bandwidth is also considered depending on the requirements of traffic load. Answer 5 Information systems rely on project management in terms of cost, quality, time and risk.
Project management enhances the system development process. Absence of project management may lead to a time consuming process along with the extension of budget. Moreover, the technical factors will lack in functionality, resulting in no contribution to the business. Answer 6 This is because new newly implemented projects in an organization are more convenient to modify as compared to the behavior of the employees. Employees who are associated with the project tends to change their behavior quite frequently, on the other hand systems are concrete and can easily be modified as per requirements.
These systems do not have intelligence to evaluate personal agendas, accepting challenges, support and commitment to the job. On the other hand, there is no guarantee that each employee will provide these factors consistently. References Ethernet VPN. (2007). Network Dictionary, , 181-181.
