It is obvious that Socrates would try to rationalize things in order to prove himself right before the jury, though the admonishment would be based on some degree of underlying truth that needs to be identified. I can know what true wisdom is.
In his reply to the second charge, Socrates tries to make undue use of his attitudes. It so seems that his point is not strong enough to convince the audience otherwise. Therefore, he takes the assistance of his attitudes to shut the audience up and enforce his perceptions on the audience. This is not right! In the capacity of a seeker of truth and justice, I should strictly condemn this behavior of Socrates and impose another charge on him of having tried to convince the audience through emotions rather than logic.
Critics may say that he had to be stressed in his tone because he was speaking on behalf of Athenians, though this is just a fake justification. What is right appears right whether or not one meddles with one’s tone to make it look right! These ideas are most evident in the study of ethics. I think so because people tend to mold ethical standards according to their taste through a mix of fake justification and emotional intelligence.
2- Explain why these ideas strike you as valuable ones to carry with you as you pursue your education.
Being a student, I am a seeker of knowledge. I want to know what truth is so that it becomes the basis of my knowledge and I may take rational decisions in every matter of my life. In order to achieve this, I should act in a very critical manner and should pass all that I read from a sieve of criticism so that all positives and negatives of the philosophy become evident.
These ideas strike me as valuable ones as I pursue my education because education is the fundamental source of knowledge. The more one reads, the more one learns. In contemporary society, people are educated more than ever before, yet the moral standing of society is highly intolerable. This is fundamentally so because we, as students are fed many corrupt ideas together with noble ones through education. Students need to be very particular in the development of their beliefs so that they display a high level of morality in their mannerisms and realize and fulfill their responsibilities and obligations towards themselves, their family and friends, and the state. Once we learn to criticize ourselves, only then can we attain our Personal Legend.
