Knowledge of sociology also helps the career pursuer. One pursuing a career, regardless of the career field, should be aware of how humans interact. This is true since almost every career goal requires a certain type of human interaction. Positive human interaction can mean a successful career.

Every individual has their own political and economic philosophies. These philosophies are important to consider. Sociology teaches how others make decisions. Becoming a dental hygienist involves the use of economic decisions. One may choose to become a dental hygienist for income level. The income level of a dental hygienist allows the one pursuing the career to reach a mid-income level and become a part of the sociological class of individuals that receive moderate income.  Individuals in a mid-class income level are not considered wealthy but have plenty of money to get by and take care of a family. These individuals also are likely to share similar political beliefs since they will share the same struggles. Learning sociology has helped me to learn which career goals will bring in certain income levels and which groups of people are associated with certain income levels. Although not everyone is the same, knowledge of sociology helps create an image of certain classes of individuals.

Becoming a dental hygienist will allow me to work with different types of people that come from many different backgrounds. These people will be from different income levels, ages, and ethnicities. Learning how people interact will help improve my interaction with others as a dental hygienist. It is important to recall that individuals from different cultures will have different beliefs. It is important to respect others' beliefs in order to achieve one's career goal.

Knowledge of sociology also helps to give a perspective on education. Education will help individuals become further educated and able to complete their goals. It is important to set specific goals and achieve them. Striving to complete career goals is important in human interaction and a motivator of education completion. Completing educational goals is also dependent on gender stratification. Although gender stratification is not as dominant as it was years ago, it is still an issue. It is harder for women to complete career goals since they have childbearing and caregiving responsibilities. Gender stratification and the growth of women in the workplace are becoming less and less of an issue over time.

It is easy to see how sociology plays a role in everyone’s life and has effects on decisions. Every decision made especially career decisions is dependent on career goals and one’s own personal beliefs. Learning sociology can help achieve career goals by eliminating human interaction boundaries that can hinder career growth.
