The Legal Acceptance of Same-Sex Marriage - Essay Example

The religious community of America remains divided in opinion on homosexuals entering marriage bond.

When one idealizes marriage, it is the image of a man and woman comes into mind. A marriage is an institution where a man and woman take a vow to love and care for each other and procreate to keep the family lineage alive. It is revealed that seventy percent of people in the US oppose gay marriage and the same proportion of people favor the same. It means the same people who opposed this issue are also favoring it on the other side. However, same-sex marriages are not a natural phenomenon to talk about, as it does not result in offspring which is the main objective of the union between man and woman. To accept same-sex marriage is equal to being unnatural and provokes evil and immoral thoughts in the minds of people and creates a society that will eliminate the expanse of humanity.

Genuinely speaking, homosexuals and gays have the same right to live happily as any other person, and if they enter a marriage it is not a very deniable act. Thinking from the point of view of human and civil rights, it can be argued that there is nothing wrong in giving them a platform to live joyfully. Considering the rights of homosexuals, five states of the US have made legal the domestic partnership or civil unions of these groups. However, this courtship is not considered marriage but is a circumstance given to the same-sex couple to be with each other and engage in mutual companionship. Moreover, during this union, they are allowed all benefits and entitlements legally available to normal couples. Since same-sex couples also portray emotions and feelings like other couples, allowing them to live together is not a wrong idea.

In today’s world, there is an increase in the emergence of gay and homosexual couples and the demands are high from the respective society and government. Even though this is not a socially acceptable demand, still they are allowed courtship based on human rights and freedom. But thinking of morality, same-sex marriage is not a recommended idea as it is against acceptable and idealized social and moral norms. If people are given the freedom to engage in same-sex marriages, more cases of the same nature will multiply in the future. This could only formulate a society with no generation expansion and it will nullify the population as well as ethical standards of humanity.
