A More Critical Approach This article is clearly written for the foodie in all of us. Marketing appeals posted throughout hook us with their descriptive phrases making us want to just rush right out and experience this food phenomenon. The language of the article is exciting and engaging as opposed to critically analytical. While it may be difficult to become critical of a food article, it’s still possible to talk about food without making the reader lose focus. Instead of the article giving just basic facts about the new item, it was presented as a must have that was on the verge of becoming extinct; a chance in a lifetime opportunity.
This was clearly marketing related. The article addressed the pricing issue with a subtle undertone of comedy as though surely no one would mind paying a higher price for ‘the real deal’ as opposed to something pressed and chopped into a reasonable rib shape. It managed to show competitiveness in the local market by comparing the items to those in the competition. Still, however, it was done with the enthusiasm of competitive edged pricing with lots of descriptive adjectives as opposed to just reporting the facts.
This article continually refers to people engaging in almost barbaric behavior with regards to the food sensations of this company, with little intention of remaining neutral. It talks about the difficulties of food preparation with regards to this product, yet manages to tout the fact that their product has been processed correctly, with the optimal outcome; again, another marketing technique that separates them from the competition. This article reads more like a persuasive essay than a critical analysis of a food and its processing.
It was more than likely produced by the company’s marketing team. I would have given the information about the product in a more analytical as opposed to a metaphorical tone; using less descriptive language and less emotion. I would have explored its position neutrally in the competition without making it sound as though no one else could possibly produce this product in an edible state.
