of Practice: Its Need and Importance of practice refers to the written guidelines and rules provided by a pofessional association to determine the ways in which the members of that professional association should behave. The code of practice, hence, is the set of rules with which a member of the official body or professional association should comply with. The professions which have high ethical values to be complied with normally have a code of practice. These professions include healthcare service provides like doctors, nurses etc.

, lawyers, chartered accountants, pilots, physicians, and engineers. The code of practice include compliance with the service quality standards as well as ethical values to be protected. All professional bodies include guidelines on ethical behaviors, ethical decision making, protection of others rights and carrying out the duties with professional competence. Importance of Code of Practice: Professions require code of practice in order to provide a single behavioral pattern to the members. It works as a central lead and reference for the members to carry out their daily tasks and decision making.

This code helps in maintaining the ethical behaviors and provides unified principles of conduct to the members. Professionals are given a sense of unity and oneness regardless of the differences that exist between them using a number of principles and regulations. It acts as a single platform to guide ethical behaviors and justifiable activities under the light of a single and fixed path provided to professional in the form of code of practice. Ethical: Code of practice helps in giving clear understanding about the profession’s work path, values, aims and objectives.

These codes are valuable in motivating ethical professional behavior of the members. The members get clear understanding of what is expected from them as a professional and tend to follow those guidelines provided to them. This code, hence, acts as a shield against unethical, discriminatory and improper behaviors of professionals. A code of practice helps in improving ethical behaviors in the professional services. It provides detailed guidelines on ethical decision making and practices. It helps the members in understanding and tackling with ethical dillemas and unethical parctices in thier careers.

It maintains professionality of the members by imposing some principles andregulations on its members. It gives details of actions in case of non-compliance with the unified code of practice for the professionals (i.e. the members associated with certain organization). Way of Communicating Basic Ideas for Professionals: Code of practice acts as a way of communication with the members associated with the professional body. The code clearly communicates the values with the larger population following those guidelines.

An example may be the code of conduct of ACCA which has its members working around the world. This code of conduct serves as a central communication medium for all the members regardless of the place and region they work in. Guide to Political and Legal Requirements: It provides guidelines in order to understand the political and legal requirements and expectations attached to their career. These legal requirements set by law and regulatory principles help in developing public confidence and maintaining trust environment in the professional career.

It is, hence, a way of educating professionals on laws, regulations and implications of unlawful acts in their relevant fields. Building and Maintaining Relationships: The code of practice defines the scope and nature of the work that professionals involve in. The code of practice of any organziations clealrly defines the objectives of the professional work and formulate the way of interactions with others. The code of practice helps in understanding the relationships within the organization they work for.

This code helps in maintaining relationships between co-workers without compromising the objectivity and independence of their professions. For instance, the auditors have the responisbility to give independent opinion on the performance of the business regardless of the relationships they form within the workplace. Their objectivity is the requirement and expectation of their profession set out by the code of practice. If I were to draw a code of practice for a student I would have included disciplinary procedures as a core principle.

The students should be disciplined, follow rules and be regular in their college activities including sports and academic participation. The safety regulations, rules on attendance, exam apperance, assignment submission, class attendance and abidance with general regulations set out by professors and college administration will be included. The guidelines and strict rules against plagiarism will be included in the code of practice to make certain that students do not cheat, copy or use others work illegally.

In conclusion, we can say that code of practice forms an important part of the professional career. This code provides useful information to the members of any organziation in order to perform ethical, legal and professional practices.
