Current Event Summary One of the most important current events, which is “newsworthy” at the moment, is reported by the AP White House CorrespondentBen Feller, who reports President Obama as making the statement that leadership now is ‘shared responsibility’. According to the correspondent, President Barack Obama entreated the Democratic and Republican lawmakers to support him and “rally behind his vision of economic revival for an anxious nation.” (Feller, 2011). The news agency reported Obama as making the crucial statement that “we will move forward together or not at all”.

The President was addressing a Congress sobered by the assassination attempt against Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and he made use of “his best chance of the year to connect with the country” to prove to the nation about his vision of economic revival. Thus, Obama devoted most of his prime-time to deal with the issues of the economy which is now reeling from a monster recession. (Feller, 2011). In his address to the Congress, President Obama clearly outlined his broad strategy for the economic growth of the nation in spite of the current issues of the struggle.

The President maintained that both the Democrats and Republicans need to work together to keep the nation a competitive and stimulating economy. Addressing the issues of the economy and the strategies to overcome these, President Barack Obama emphasized the need for unity in a new era of divided government. In this speech, the President addressed his key plans to boost the economy, create jobs and cut spending, and his major endeavor was to persuade the emboldened Republican Party which is deeply skeptical of the President’s plan for economic revival.

“The president unveiled an agenda of carefully balanced political goals: a burst of spending on education, research, technology and transportation to make the nation more competitive, alongside pledges, in the strongest terms of his presidency, to cut the deficit and smack down spending deemed wasteful to America.” (Feller, 2011). Therefore, it is important to realize that President Barack Obama effectively put together his economic strategies and the carefully balanced political goals in order to appeal for united efforts to counter the economic issues faced by the nation today.

The most prominent concern of the President in his address to the Congress has been to emphasize the effectiveness of his vision of economic revival. Ben Feller effectively describes the various components of the President’s vision of economic revival. Accordingly, President Barack Obama termed the economic challenges faced by the nation as “bigger than party and bigger than politics”. “Obama’s proposals Tuesday night included cutting the corporate tax, providing wireless services for almost the whole nation, consolidating government agencies and freezing most discretionary federal spending for the next five years.

” (Feller, 2011). Thus, President Obama clearly spelled out his plans for economic revival which include cutting of the corporate tax, consolidation of the government agencies, and freezing of the unrestricted federal spending. Significantly, the president requested the lawmakers to work together as “the future is ours to win”, indicating the overarching theme of his speech. In short, Ben Feller’s article “Obama: Leadership now ‘shared responsibility’” can be realized as a comprehensible reporting of the President Obama’s vision of economic revival of the nation.
