At the age of sixteen, I joined an international exchange program where I had the opportunity to meet students from very diverse backgrounds. Through this summer camp, we all worked together to develop a marketing plan for a pizza fundraiser. We worked very hard together; from designing flyers and posters to creating the hype to bringing in the crowds and in the end, we won the competition. It was through this experience that I learned that by being in an environment that promotes diversity and high achievement I tend to perform at my very best level.
I got my taste of leadership during my time as Secretary of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at my community college. Interaction with students from across the globe narrowed my choice of higher education towards International Business, insofar as I was always interested in the coming together of cultures and practices for mutual benefit. I would love to share my cultural heritage with others at the same time learn from them. Again by being in this positive environment, I was not only in gaining direct exposure from people from diverse backgrounds but I was also being pushed by my peers to perform at my highest levels.
I believe we can take business out of geographical confines, a point that has been proved time and again, hence my application for admission at UIUC. I believe that that this experience helped kick-start my career and equip me with all the necessary tools I need to excel. Through reading about Purdue University I noticed that you have almost five thousand students from 123 countries. I believe that this environment is not only representative of the diverse society that we now live in but helps foster an environment that promotes better cultural understanding. I believe that through studying at Purdue I would not only gain exposure to quality classroom lectures and lesson plans but I would also gain the kind of cultural exposure that will help improve my communication skills, my cross-cultural understanding, diligence, creativity, and social networking skills. Moreover, by constantly working with people from diverse backgrounds, I believe that this would help equip me to handle delicate and complex situations. I believe that if I were equipped with these skills I would not only be able to achieve personal goals such as a rewarding career and a happy social life I truly believe that the work I perform would be able to improve my community as well.
