There are four main steps I would use to create an action plan to help me practice self-forgetting. The first step I would undertake is to identify my biases. Everyone has prejudices, some unconscious, others which they may be more aware of. It is important to understand what motivates you and where you have irrational ideas. I need to think long and hard about where my biases lie. In order to do this I must undertake the second step: seek accurate feedback. I will ask other people to help me identify biases that are present in my behaviour. Ideally, I will find a counsellor who I can trust and who can help me with this important step. Third, it is important to be humble throughout this plan. I need to learn to laugh at myself. We are all just people doing our best to get by. We need to be less serious. Not every mistake it the end of the world. All of us are clumsy in our way. Finally, I will focus beyond myself by doing more volunteer work. This will put in the position of other people and help me move beyond my own pride and biases. Using these four steps, I will use my action plan to pursue a more humble life.
