Personal Development Plan Affiliation Personal Development Planning (PDP) Section Introduction. Personal Development Planning is a well-structured and supported process executed by an individual and involves reflection of personal performance, learning and achievement and developing a plan for educational, personal and career development. Personal Development Planning is an important process for the students and workers in the professional positions (Manktelow, 2007). The Personal Development Plan is important for a number of reasons. First, the Personal development Plan ensures that employees in a company or organization maintain job proficiency in their current jobs through continuous development and training activities. Secondly, the plan also enables employees to identify skills, abilities and new knowledge necessary to pursue and accomplish various personal goals set effectively. Personal Development Plan is also important in an organization since it helps in supporting the organization’s mission and various career field needs. Implementing Personal Development Plans enable employees and learners to gain and enhance their competencies in knowledge, experiences, and skills (Quality Assurance Agency, 2009). Section 2: Personal reflection I am a self-motivated, hardworking and ambitious person possessing a wide range of knowledge, skills and experiences acquired through academic studies and work experience particularly in the security industry. I am a self-driven and adaptive person who maintains professionalism in the workplace, attention to details and instructions where appropriate and applies an enthusiastic approach towards work. I have the ability to prioritize conflicting demands effectively and focusing on achieving the specific goals established. I possess management and teamwork skills that are necessary to work in harmony with other employees within the organization. I am committed to rewarding and successful career with a progressive and goal- oriented institution offering an opportunity for developing personal career. Educational qualification and skills In my educational life, I have achieved a number of qualifications in different areas. I hold a Diploma in Construction acquired from 2005 to 2006. I also hold a Certificate in Computer Studies acquired from a Computer Institute from 2003 to 2004. I acquire 7 GCSEs including Mathematics and English from a Government Technical College from 1999 to 2002. I have acquired several licenses in the security field. These include Door Supervisor License, Public Space Surveillance CCTV license, CCTV Installation and maintenance engineer license and Intruder Alarm Installation and Maintenance. I possess Information Technology skills in IP LAN and WAN Network, Windows Word, PowerPoint and Excel, Project Commander, AutoCAD, Configure CCTV for remote view via laptop, mobile and iPad Internet and Email. Personal strengths and weakness analysis PERSONAL STRENGTHS PERSONAL WEAKNESS Proper installation and control of security systems like CCTV systems Nervous feeling when addressing large congregation Maintenance of integrity, professionalism and accountability in the workplace Insufficient skills in financial management Customer care services Human resource management Monitoring and control of alarm systems Security monitoring Teamwork Decision making and conflict management My strengths are important since they assist me to work effectively and in harmony with other people in the workplace. I am focused on improving and enhancing my strengths in order to achieve goals and objectives in the future. I also focus on developing solutions to improve on weaknesses. For instance, I will attend organizational meetings, social gathering and community-based activities where I will seek for opportunities to address people in order to improve my communication skills and gain courage to address a mass of people. I will enroll in a financial management course to perfect and enhance my skills in financial management. Section 3: Objectives and goals My prime goals and objectives are to become security manager or a construction manager in a top 500 Fortune’s Multinational Corporation in the world. I establish the goal of becoming a top security manager in a multinational corporation in for various reasons. First, the position as a top security manager provides an optimal opportunity to apply professional, social and management skills and knowledge in the line of duty. These skills include proper monitoring and control of security systems, management of human resource in the security department and social interaction with leaders and employees. Secondly, serving as a security manager in a multinational corporation will provide an opportunity to improve the current security status of the multinational corporations and develop effective and modern security systems that will be used in various countries in the world. Serving as a security manager will offer better financial rewards such as salaries, allowances and other benefits enjoyed by top managers in multinational corporations. I also envy to be a Construction Manager in a top multinational corporation to establish and implement new construction designs that would be effective in saving space and cost. In addition, the position of a Construction Manager will enable me to serve the society effectively by ensuring that building constructed in different countries are modern, community serving and durable. The top position also offers economic, social and political benefits such as a good salary, interaction with leaders, managers and clients from different countries. Section 4: Action plans To accomplish my prime goals and objectives, I have done and accomplished various achievements in the past. First, I acquired a Diploma in Construction. The educational achievement provided basic skills and knowledge in construction activities. In addition, I gained construction monitoring and control skills that I would use in the future as a Construction Manager in a multinational corporation. Secondly, I acquired a certificate in GCSEs that included English and Mathematics from a Government Technical College. The study equipped me with mathematical aspects and communication skills. I gained adequate knowledge in Mathematical computations that I would apply in the security field and construction field. English had a significant impact on formal communication like report writing, proposal writing, and project development. In addition, I gained informal communication skills such as verbal and non-verbal communication skills and speeches. I also acquired security licenses such as Door Supervisor, Public Space Surveillance CCTV licenses and CCTV Installation and maintenance licenses. These educational achievements provided knowledge and skills in installation and management of security systems. Experiences gained in various workplaces have also enhanced my skills and knowledge necessary to achieve my prime goals and objectives. For instance, working as a Specialist Operator in the Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) provided an opportunity to learn different skills in operating and handling security systems. For example, I learned about monitoring live CCTV, creation of escalation procedures, keeping and recording witness statements and evidential records. Other skills acquired include monitoring vehicle tracking, access control, temperature/ panic alarm monitoring and duty roster creation for staff nationwide. Skills and experiences gained as a Security and Costumer Service Supervisor include the creation of work permits for contractors, customer services, obtaining and maintenance of the British Standard 7958:2005, writing incident reports and co-working with police. In addition, I acquired knowledge in dealing with emergency security systems such as fire alarms and intruder’s alarms and responding to panic alert messages. As a Security Officer, I ensured that valuables, buildings and people working in the organization were safe and secure. I gained experience in security management, incidents report writing, intruders’ tracking and emergency reporting. Skills and experiences gained at different workplaces enhance personal abilities and competencies to achieve my prime goals and objectives. Section 5: Future Action Plans To accomplish my prime goals, I will undertake different activities. First, I will undertake a construction or security- related courses as a Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree starting next year. Holding a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in security will provide an opportunity to become a top level manager in a multinational corporation in the world. Currently, managers in multinational corporations are holders of Ph.D. degrees, Master’s degree and few are holding a Bachelor’s degree. Therefore, pursuing a Master’s degree will be an appropriate action towards achieving my prime goal. Secondly, I will pursue a business management course in management to enhance my management knowledge and skills. A business management course will provide basic management skills that I will apply as a manager in a multinational corporation. In addition, a business management course will provide knowledge and skills in financial management, thus I will be able to budget for either security or construction activities in the corporation. Business management course will also be significant in acquiring skills in human resource management. As a security or construction manager, I will be required to monitor and manage employees and working in either construction or security. Therefore, the course will equip me to serve as a manager in a multinational corporation. Lastly, I will participate in at least four corporate security and construction- based meetings and conferences yearly. The participation will enable me to interact with different managers and acquire relevant knowledge and skills that would be applicable and useful to my future career as a manager. In addition, participation in corporate meetings and conferences will offer me opportunities to identify opportunities in multinational corporations and exploit those opportunities effectively.
