The author acknowledges that the case study was done in a single hospital and hence it is difficult to prove whether the results can be replicated in other healthcare facilities. The authors look into the benefits of the proactive Wound Care Improvement program by argues that it increases patient safety. The study reveals that implementation of this program does not automatically lead to its efficient utilization and hence includes procedures to increase utilization of the resources by nurses. Design of research and the method- Barker et al ( 2013) used a retrospective clinical audit design to collect and analyze data related to ulcer prevention program for 4368 patients medical records where they pick a sample 270 patients. The study reviewed that the ulcer prevention program that were employed in the northern hospital was adequate and patience received adequate prescribed amount of care. The findings and conclusion - Barker et al ( 2013) found out that implementation of pressure ulcer prevention best practice in acute care increases changes of reduced expenses for hospital. The topic is consistent to the study of prevention of pressure injuries by critically analyzing the gap between the existing mitigating strategies for pressure ulcer and the recommended for high risk patients. Therefore this article is helpful to both the writer and user of the research. Given that this is a topic that has not been subjected to extensive research; the findings can act as a foundation for future research on the topic. Design of research and the method- Donnelly et al, (2011) used patients aged over 65 years in a fracture trauma unit a hospital in Illinois. They recruited 119 patients as control group and 120 as intervention group. The patients were put in pressure ulcer prevention strategies while the intervention group was not subjected to the same. Reflection - This article has greatly contributed to my chosen topics, helping me to view it from a wider perspective. In most cases pressure injuries, could have not included pressure ulcers caused by hip fractures as it appears to me, a rare area of study. In most of my studies, pressure injuries ulcer caused by hip fractures, was not among the things considered, therefore the paper has helped me understand a grey area. The article has therefore contributed to my knowledge of the topic by showing me that there is pressure ulcer resulting from hip fracture, more so, in older patients, in view of these I will be able to understand strategies that are relevant to treatment and prevention of acutely ill or immobile patients suffering from lower limbs fracture. The journal has prayed an important role in diversifying the type of information that I have learned. It also complements my choose topic, given that pressurize injury prevention competency is an important aspect of nursing practice. The issue of preventing pressurized injuries in fracture trauma unit of a hospital has been thoroughly analyzed giving helpful insights to nurses. Design of research and the method- Latimer et al (2014) have conducted interpretive study where a patient is given a voice in prevention strategy and the results have shown that a patient participation is a key in reducing the cost associated with the pressure injury prevention and treatment. The findings showed that patient’s participation provided first hand experience which was critical in reduction of prevention and treatment. This also increased the relationship between patients and nurses. Findings and conclusion -The article has given detailed analysis on the importance of patient’s participation in pressure ulcers prevention and treatments, and how patients contribute to its effectiveness. By using this journal I will be able to support my chosen topic. In that patient participation is an important aspect of pressure injury prevention. In using the authors, in using research from different sources they have discussed the issue fro different perspective, thus the findings give an accurate account on the issue. I have learnt from the articled that although the nurse’s knowledge on pressure injury prevention strategies is important in a hospital setting, the patient’s participation determines the success of treatment. Pressure injury prevention strategies are the most common treatments used in clinical setting even though patient’s participation is required. According to the article, patient’s participation is highly recommended to reduce prolonged treatment by nursing staff which may lead to patients showing disinterest in the treatment. In cases where patient’s participation is not incorporated, there is likelihood that most resources of the hospital will be used in trying to manage these kinds of injuries. This study has proven that patient’s intervention can easily prevent pressure injuries either of pressure injuries or wound injuries. Reflection - The article has added to my knowledge on pressure ulcers prevention by showing me that in order to attain effective and reduce instances of pressure injuries, patients participation is crucial. Design of research and the method - The authors recruited 1309 participants into 18 trials and they found out that there was no equipment that was superior in creating pressure injuries. The results for this study indicated that treatment of pressure injuries was critical but no single device performed well than the other. The authors considered electromagnetic therapy wound cleaning therapeutic ultra sound and repositioning, in issues of treatment of pressure ulcers there was no difference between low-tech and high-tech devices. Findings and conclusion - The results as emulated by this study will contribute immensely to my chosen topic in several ways. In the first place I have realized that in order to effectively treat pressure injuries effectively as a nurse, I need to realize that the type of equipment used does not influence prevention and treatment. Given that the joy I had accorded high-tech devices the results proved otherwise. Professional physicians should therefore, be engaged at the individual level, in order to seek ways of exploring risk and the most appropriate way(s) to control the condition. It is imperative to remember that the risk of pressure injury can be completely eliminated. pressure injury has proved difficult to handle, if close monitoring of the condition is not employed. Reflection - The article findings have given invaluable insight given the fact that they have incorporated both high-tech and low-tech devices and 18 trials of 1309 patients. I can therefore us the article with authority as it will support my chosen topics. As a result of reading the article, I was able to learn that though there are many devices available in the market. The critical factor in treatment is the participation of both the nurse and the patients as compared to the involvement of high-tech or low-tech equipments. This study can be very useful for topic because I believe that it is equally important to determine the students’ opinion about pressure injury treatment. Furthermore, I believe that it is important to establish a positive response about the use of pressure injury treatment to get the students fully embrace the possibility that pressure injury treatment can provide in terms of improving logical thinking and problem solving.
