Extract of sample "Complications after Stroke"

One of the major complications suffered by patients after stroke is paralysis or loss of muscle movement (Koziol & Feng, 2006). A patient who has initially suffered a stroke may become paralyzed on either side of his or her body or even lose control of certain muscles such as on one side of the face or arm. Therefore my target population for this project is patients suffering from a stroke. These patients need this information to assist them to know how to deal with the situation once confronted (Koziol & Feng, 2006).

For instance, physical therapy may help the patient return to activities hampered by paralysis like eating, walking, and dressing among others. Some of the outcomes to be achieved by the population after the project are; knowledge on the use of tissue plasminogen activator or alteplase which is a clot-buster drug dissolving the blood clot which leads to stroke (Koziol & Feng, 2006). The patients will also know the appropriate time to use the drug because there is a narrow window of using it; the earlier it is used the better the outcome as bleeding into the brain will be reduced.

The patients will also acquire knowledge on how and where to seek rehabilitation which will restore their strength and get them used to their post-stroke lifestyle.
