Nonetheless, patients differ and are at varied stages of the illnesses needing more care as opposed to the others. Similarly, as decision makers, they decide what is good for the client and ought to utilize their critical thinking skills to settle on the right decision for the clients’ significant outcomes.

In this context, holistic care is more important. Holistic care has an implication that whole individual is of the essence as opposed to the sum of the body parts. Thence, care should address the spiritual, cultural, and mental mentally needs in a concurrent manner. As communicators, nurses need to ensure that there exist appropriate strategies to bolster communication to the patients and their family members. Achieving these strategies expedites the healing process. As Treas & Wilkinson (2014) note, clients are unique due to the variations in their thinking.

Henceforth, it is imperative to indulge in critical thinking to ensure that one meets the needs of the client. Correspondingly, various factors embodied by various clients affect the provision of strict rules that guide healthcare delivery. For example, individual differences, culture, age, and roles are imperative. Additionally, there is personal bias, personality, and previous exposure to healthcare problems. Defense mechanismsThe son is employing the denial tactic in dealing with stress that arise due to the mastectomy procedures done on his mother while the husband is exercising the compensation mechanism.

Additionally, the daughter is using assertiveness and the patient is experiencing a repression mechanism due to the loss of her femininity. The responses to the stressor depict the developmental stages of these family members (Gradus et al., 2014). In perspective, the son is in early childhood development stage while the husband is in the old age stage. On the other hand, the daughter is middle aged and the patient is in the adulthood stage of development. The RN determines whether the defense mechanism is harmful or helpful through the analyzing the symptoms of the client.

For instance, in the denial stage, the client might start to act negatively like withdrawal from the public. Nursing diagnosis The mother is facing a risk for post-trauma syndrome and it is emanating from the loss of her felinity coupled with social discrimination. The symptoms are grieving over her femininity loss. The husband is having a difficult time to cope with the family stress (Gradus et al., 2014). The ineffective coping comes from the family image due to the loss of femininity of the wife and symptoms are engaging in religious activities to cover up the family’s image.

Further, the daughter is suffering from the readiness to enhance the family coping strategies. The situation comes up from the mother’s state and she wants to help her cope with the mastectomy stress. The case has characteristics of overindulging in her mother’s activities as mechanism to help her cope. Moreover, the son has ineffective denial whereby he fails to agree to the mother’s situation and gets characterized by total refusal to concede to his mother’s situation.
