The policies are in place to govern the day-to-day running of these Transitional Living Facilities. The Magar Marylynn-sponsored bill also seeks to redefine the prerequisites for the admission of individuals in the Transitional Living Facilities in an attempt to curb the spread of diseases in these facilities. #1. However, the bill has a few policy issues.

This bill prohibits the admission of a patient who is at risk of infection to other patients and facility personnel. By setting this strict prerequisite for the admission of individuals, the very detailed Florida Senate House Bill 111 somehow delays the interventions of individuals with brain and spinal cord injuries. The strict guidelines and conditions that have to be met by patients may take a lot of time to be screened and ascertained before they are eventually admitted. Some Transitional Living Facilities may lack the very sophisticated equipment to screen individuals for admission.

The legislation of this bill will also prohibit other patients with related health problems from being admitted to the transitional living facilities.#3. Brain and spinal injuries usually lead to the incapacitation of an individual. In most cases, the injured fails to move the whole or some parts of the body. The causes of brain and spinal injuries are accidents, diseases, and disorders. Motor vehicle accidents account for most spinal injuries. According to National Spinal Cord Injury Statistical Center, as many as 40,000 people in America have suffered spinal and brain injuries. #4. Most spinal and brain injuries occur in individuals between the age of 16 and 30, with the majority being males.

These injuries leave many of the victims disabled.#5. Brain and spinal injuries always have severe implications. Economically, the victim may be forced to quit a job, a move that terminates salary. The cost of health care for spinal and brain injury is also very high. Health implications may include loss of memory and immobility. Socially, the incapacitated victim may be isolated in society. An injured individual may also fail to fulfill some cultural obligations such as marriage. #6. The government has always tried to curb cases of spinal and brain injuries by advocating for safe driving and formulating harsh penalties on lawbreakers.

There have also been support centers in various hospitals for the victims of spinal and brain injuries. This bill will only ensure the patients are treated under quality and safe conditions in transitional living facilities.#7. Magar Marylynn’s has met opposition from some senators arguing that prohibiting the admission of a patient who is at risk of infection is being discriminative. It would, therefore, be plausible to include patients with communicable diseases in the admission and then isolate them for special treatment before they join others (Burney, 2013). #8. The Bill is now before the Health and Human Services Committee and has been placed on Calendar for Second Reading. The elected officials are trying to analyze to amend some parts of this bill.
