I will assess if the patient understands the discharge instructions by asking questions (through the translator) touching on circumstances regarding the injury and the situations that may call for home remedies or those that may require him to come back to the hospital. His answers to these questions will enable me to know his level of understanding of those instructions (Gilboy & Howard, 2009)
• How will the actions of the staff member either negatively or positively impact patient care and the patient care experience?
The actions of the staff member will negatively affect patient care and experience by endangering the health and life of the patient. The patient may decide to get out of the hospital without instructions and discharge orders and this would be dangerous because he could experience pain or other conditions that may require him to get back to the hospital but might not do so because of the lack of information (Weiss, 2007).
• What ethical values or decisions did the staff member make that do not align with the patient education policy?
The decision that the staff member made that does not align with the patient education policy is the failure to brief the patient as to why he was waiting for instructions and discharge orders. This made the patient anxious and confused about the whole process. This is not ethical (Alfandre, 2009).
