Most men featured in the film act only as patients, family members and doctors. This discrimination has created a negative impression that men can never make good nurses and that they are not as caring as the female counterparts.
In the Hollywood drama film, Scrubs, the nurses have been depicted as the doctors’ assistants, who, know very little about the patients and their respective diseases. Nonetheless, the reality is that nurses truly do more than the doctors themselves. Nurses are always with the patients round the clock to ensure that they are well assessed, diagnosed and take their medicine in good time.
In conclusion, such depiction of nursing may terminate the rapport between the nurses and the public. Young men aspiring to be nurses may also have a change of mind. Hollywood should, therefore, give more important roles to the nurses in the subsequent filming.
