Reflection on my internship - Research Paper Example

Reflection Paper I began my practicum at Hillcrest Hospital with much excitement and anticipation. I looked forward to learning much about the admininstration part of the company since I already worked at the hospital as a part time nurse. It is because of this work relationship that I have with the hospital that I was also apprenehsive about my internship. I felt that the instructors would be expecting more from me because of that familiarity between us in the workplace. If they had been expecting more from me, they did not let me notice because they were just as helpful and considerate of me as they were when I was there doing part - time duties.

One of the most important parts of my first day as a practicumer was learning about how hospital policies were made and why it was of the utmost importance that the employees follow the policies. I was quite excited to be a part of the policy creation instead of implementation group. Learning how policy was developed and created really helped me gain a better understanding of the administrative work that goes behind running a successful health care facility. By the end of the day, I already had a different perspective of the administrative side of nursing.

Although I had some questions about the hospital policies and related fields, my preceptor was quite patient in explaining the confusing parts to me. She never let me feel like I was getting in the way or preventing actual work from getting done. It was a truly enlightening and engaging first day for me. Although I sometimes felt overwhelmed, I still ended the day feeling that I had learned so much in a single day. That is why I am looking forward to going back for more practicum training with my preceptor in the future.
