However, the practice of hand washing in many healthcare centers has experienced challenges from time to time due to the increasing numbers of patients which force clinicians to provide services in hasty successions. In order to fix this problem, healthcare intuitions’ management must be responsible in ensuring sufficient workforce and facilities are present in order to maintain high quality hygiene.
For something to be done to satisfaction, prior preparation is necessary need. One should remove such items as bungles and rings removed to ensure that no dirt is left under them and that the washing product used is able to penetrate all areas. In addition, nails should be kept short to avoid leaving dirt suspended them. In case one is dressed in a long- sleeved top, it is necessary to fold it ease the washing process.
Wet hands under running water- this is the basic step for hand washing. After wetting the hands, apply soap or an antiseptic product on the palms and rub vigorously. Once all parts of the hand are rubbed thoroughly, including the wrists, rinse the hands carefully while pointing them downwards. Turn off the tap using elbows or a towel to avoid contamination from dirt on top of the tap handle. Finally, dry the hands thoroughly using non reusable paper towels if necessary.
Health care providers must enhance high level of hygiene when handling delicate patient situation. Clinicians are always advised to wash hands before touching a patient or starting the treatment procedure to prevent transmission of microbial to the patient (Hart, 2013). For instance, when assisting expectant mothers to give birth, the healthcare provider should wash hands to shield the newborn from infections.
