The four perceptions, namely: perceived seriousness, perceived susceptibility, perceived benefits and perceived barriers can be used to explain why a person behaves the way he does when it comes to health. All four perceptions affect an individual’s health and well-being so these must all be kept positive in order to achieve optimal health. Pedersen, P.B. and Kolstad, A., 2009, De-institutionalisation and trans- institutionalisation – changing trends of inpatient care in Norwegian mental health institutions 1950-2007, International Journal of Mental Health Systems, 3:28 This article chronicles trends in Norwegian mental health institutions from the 1950’s to the present that leads to current trends of deinstitutionalization and trans-institutionalization of inpatient care. It concludes with the observation that deinstitutionalization may mean fewer beds available in mental health facilities but not necessarily fewer patients treated since they are just transferred to other mental health services. It also identifies the factors behind deinstitutionalization in Norway as the expansion of welfare state; increased professional focus on active treatment and increased focus on patients’ preferences. Thompson, P., Lang, L. & Annells, M., 2008, A systematic review of the effectiveness of in-home community nurse led interventions for the mental health of older persons, Journal of Clinical Nursing Journal Compilation, Blackwell Publishing, Ltd. This article is a systematic review of the literature on in-home community nurse-led interventions for elderly adults with mental health issues. Main findings...
Community care centers need to adopt a health promotion program to guide the health workers with a firm philosophy of health and wellness. A commonly used health promotion model is the Health Belief Model (HBM) which proposes that health behaviour is determined by one’s personal beliefs or perceptions regarding a disease or disorder and the available strategies one can access to prevent it.  Another good health promotion program is one by Ewles & Simnett (2005).  It  takes a holistic health care approach, taking into account all dimensions of a person’s development.  A study on how these two health promotion programs can be integrated to come up with the most appropriate program that would best suit elderly adults with mental illness would be interesting.a. Purpose statement for a Quantitative Study:  This study will compare the Health Belief Model (HBM) and the Holistic Health Care approach  as to its principles and features using a likert-scaled questionnaire to be distributed to nurse practitioners working in a hospital facility. It purports to determine the best features of each model and integrate it into one effective health promotion program.b. Purpose statement for a Qualitative Study:  The purpose of this study is to develop a sustainable community care health promotion program for the elderly with mental illness.  Input from families of residents in a psychiatric facility will be interviewed as to their preferences for their family members. ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

...?Week 10 Capstone Project The Internet is a major problem for children with pornography addiction. As d previously in other aspects of this project, teens are able to access the Internet for prolonged periods of time, which means that they can do this in the privacy of their homes; often they are looking at pornography while they are doing their homework. The solution to this problem has been for parents to begin to monitor their children’s Internet use. Unfortunately, this will not stop the problem. Generally speaking, teens do not only access the Internet from home. Today, they can access it from their cell phones or from a friend’s house. Fortunately, they usually cannot access pornography sites from the public libraries... as the way to...

...?Capstone: Week 11 As d previously, my capstone project is about teenagers who are addicted to pornography. However, most of the literature is about sexual addiction because the experts say there is no way to truly understand how much or how little a teenager uses pornography. As an example, Sussman (2007) points out that one of the reasons sexual addiction is difficult to understand is because human sexual behavior runs the gamut of interest and it is difficult to se what is “normal” or “abnormal” (p. 258) in this situation. I also found it interesting that there are ethical considerations that must be taken into account when working with teenagers, especially when the study of sexual...

...Capstone project paper Capstone project paper Several hospitals have started to incorporate risk management in their operations. The major role of the department is to make sure that the organization does not make unnecessary loss due to Potentially Compensable Events (PCE) (Felgen et al, 2004). These are occurrences that can result due to litigation against the providers in health care. Furthermore, health care providers are also forced to compensate the injured in such cases. Thus, most hospitals have occurrence report system which allows the risk managers to track down the PCE and later identify the risk areas in the organization which can be improved. Therefore, there has to be procedures and policies that should be enforced... project...

...Capstone Project When I was growing up in Mississippi in the early forties, my father told me that I could become anything I wanted in spite of being black (Abellmann et al 123). ‘Work hard and don’t care about what white people will think,’ he would say. I was ten or twelve then and the climate of racism constantly hung over Mississippi like a bad dream (Bloom 189). White people still treated us like slaves and mother did not like it. She would erupt into thunder if she heard that a white neighbour had called me a monkey (Zach & Pallua 161). Then I did not understand the sheer effect to be called a ‘monkey’ but, inward, I still felt it was something really abominable because it drove mother into a...
