The schedule should contain the form of activity, venue, resources, and preparations needed to perform it. How do parents get their children to do physical activities? c. What should the school do to address the present issues? Discussion The lesson is designed for community health instruction, particularly for those parents with obese or at-risk children. The invitation to attend the lesson may be coursed through the local government, who in turn will identify the attendees and will give invitations for parents to attend. The invitation should mention the opportunity for parents to learn strategies to help their children cope with the problem of obesity. Invitations may be sent two weeks before the lesson proper. The duration of the lesson is 12 hours, delivered in two Saturdays, 6 hours per day. The participants should include both mothers and fathers of the youth, or either of them. The first part of the lesson is a panel discussion. This part makes use of Cooperative Learning Strategy. Cooperative learning is applied in order to establish connection among participants. Working in a group, participants will find it easier to express their knowledge of the topic and their current situation (Kagan, 1994), and such activity will break the ice among them. According to Bastable (2008), communities nowadays are usually composed of different ethnicities. Thus, it is very important to devise a way to make the learners feel comfortable with each other. Making them work in small groups will allow them to express themselves freely regarding the topic. The activity also entails the application of the Lecture method as the facilitator informs the group regarding statistics of obese youth in the country. The second part of the lesson requires participants to suggest possible actions that the school can take in order to increase the physical activity of children and help prevent/fight obesity. This activity makes use of Cooperative Learning strategy as participants share and brainstorm on ideas to present/discuss in class. The third part is preparing a physical activity calendar that shows activities parents and children can do together. The task to make the plan requires Active Learning on the part of the participants, whereas providing a sample plan would require Direct Method of teaching on the part of the lecturer. Direct Method (Adprima Web Site, n.d.) means giving a sample or demonstrating how a task should be done. In this lesson, the lecturer will give a sample of how to prepare the schedule. The plan will guide participants to undertake activities needed to help fight obesity. The plan includes the activity, venue, time, and diet that they should take in order to increase physical activity and reduce weight. Sample activities could be mountain climbing, camping, playing ball games, etc. In view of such activities, parents will also include registration, enrolment to courses, and other preparatory activities that they should take prior to the planned activity. The fourth part of the lesson is the Physical Activity itself, which is basically the performance part where participants do the activity noted down on the calendar. The lecturer, with the assistance of the local government, should provide venue for activities like playing badminton/tennis, basketball, etc. Considering problems with venue, the participants will be encouraged to include only activities that can be performed in the venue provided by local officials such as a hall, gym, oval, etc. Performing the intended activity implies the use of Active Learning Strategy or Cooperative Learning, should participants decide to do activities with other participants. The next activity will serve as an evaluation of the main activity. This requires an evidence-based interview where selected participants will determine the importance of monitoring the physical activity of their children. In the interview, they will highlight the use of the calendar to note down activities that the parents and children will do together to complete the program they themselves designed. Objectives Rationale: 1. Enumerate factors and problems as regards the lack of physical activity of their children (Cognitive Objective) This is a cognitive objective in the analysis level because it requires enumerating the factors and tracing problems that hinder children from doing physical activities. Factors could include the lack of time and resources of parents to provide means for physical activities. Hence, parents need to analyze their current practice in order to arrive at the answers. 2. Be aware of the current national problem of obesity as discussed by the lecturer (Cognitive Objective) This is a cognitive objective because it entails listening and encoding statistical information regarding the current obesity problem. 3. Discuss feelings with other parents in a panel discussion as regards the obesity problem in their own family (Affective Objective) This is an affective objective because it focuses on what parents feel regarding the situation of their child. It also allows participants to relate with others and express sympathy to others. This objective is one of the most important objectives in the plan because it allows participants to realize the problems brought about by obesity. 4. Write down suggestions for schools to increase the physical activities of students (Cognitive Objective) This is a cognitive objective because it challenges participants to think of actions that schools can do to provide additional physical activities. 6. Design a physical activity calendar that shows activities they intend to do with their children Designing a calendar is both a cognitive and psychomotor objective. This is a cognitive objective in the application level as it requires participants to think of activities they can do with their children. This objective is the most important objective because the output of the parent serves to prove their insights and learning from the lesson. Also, in scheduling activities, parents will consider factors like financial resources, availability of time, etc., thus challenging their capability to decide intelligently for their children. This objective can also be considered a psychomotor objective because it requires the use of fine motor skills so it can be considered a psychomotor objective as well. 7. Perform a physical activity with their children Performing the intended physical activity is a psychomotor objective because it entails the use of gross psychomotor skills. (Psychomotor Objective) 8. Discuss in a recorded evidence-based interview the importance of a well-planned physical activity/ routine for their family (Cognitive Objective) This is a cognitive objective as it allows the participants to form generalizations regarding the importance of planning for physical activity.
